I bought some skateboard grip tape from Amazon for the same purpose(s). One sheet is a lifetime supply!

The GT5000 is good grip tape. I have it on several of my guns and really like it a lot. The grip tape from Talon is cut for whatever gun you order it for and is super easy to install. I got the Talon for my SR9c and it fits perfectly and gives a really good grip. You can't go wrong (IMO) with either one.
Neither one feels like sandpaper, they have a good feel.

Grip tape of any type is like most other accessories. Owners choice. Many competition guns I see have some form of it because the competitors are out in hot & sweaty conditions, or even cold & wet conditions, and want a solid gripping feel to where they have excellent control.
The funniest one I ever saw was where a guy had added skateboard tape to a Uberti 357 SA.

When I was a kid we use to use Bulldog Tape also called friction tape on our ball bats.
Looks like it came a long way. I'm a bit hesitant to apply anything like that to my guns.

That Uberti,,, I THINK the guy didn't understand the physics of recoil in a SA handgun. He was "fighting" it to hold it down like a semi-auto. I don't think he actually enjoyed that gun, and I'd bet dollars to donuts he sold it soon after. Still,,, it was one very ugly looking thing. Thank goodness it wasn't a Ruger,,, or I would have had to rescue it from an idiot.
