Just took out my SR9c today and I could only get 1 round off. It would not eject the spent round.
I cleaned the gun lightly when I got it to remove the excess oil and grease. 1 thing I notice is the slide is very hard to move. I have the SR9 and it is a breeze to rack, the SR9c is very stiff. Will this loosen up after shooting? I think this is part of the problem, as the slide does not fully extend to kick out the spent case and feed in the new round.
Any suggestions. I took the slide off and re-cleaned the spring and guide rod. I also worked the slide about 50 times. (that was a work out).
For the record the 6 shots I fired where all dead on.

I haven't taken my SR9c to the range yet. But, I can tell you that the slide, on mine, is also hard to rack. I have read others saying the same thing, that the SR9's slide is easier to rack than the compact.

You said it didn't eject the first spent round, was it partially ejected or did it not move at all? I assume that you had a firm grip on it when you fired.

I do not know what ammo you were using, but if you didn't, try some good ammo such as Cor-Bon 115.

Respectfully, if that pistol fails to cycle readily available factory ammo 6 times in a row what will Cor-Bon fix? (A $400 pistol should run $12 ammo all day long cause a $400 pistol owner ain't gonna feed it $25 ammo.) :?

I was using WW white box target and Remington and Blazer. All with the same results. All 115gr FMJ.
Cleaned her up real good and will head back out later this week.

I think he was trying to ensure that the OP wasn't using cheap-o underpowered ammo that wouldn't even cycle in a $700 pistol. I've had really cheap ammo that would not cycle in my Beretta before. Changed to some decent federal ammo and it fired just fine. So, there is a chance that really crappy ammo was being used. I think it's more to see if the gun will cycle at all.

I do not know why Mr. Quinn suggested running some Cor-Bons BUT it may be He was thinking as I am also that the slide to frame fit is just a tight one and being a new pistol it may just need some potent ammo for break-in.

I have a P239 that did the same thing, it wouldn't fire more than one round at a time, I noticed the frame to slide fit was very tight so I ran some hot loads through it with a little extra oil on the rails, it took a few mags, but now is one of my most reliable carry pieces.

Thanks for the explanations, now I know. WWB isn't known to be weak is it?

Not really, its good ammo, just that Cor-Bon is a little hotter.

I am always sorry to hear about anyone having problems with a new shooter, I have and I know it stinks.

I noticed with my SR9c that it was indeed very hard to rack when it was very new just as the mags were very hard to load when new.

After a few trips to the range everything did seem to loosen up to the point that now the "c" is very easy to rack and I can load the mags without the mag loader.

The same was true with my SR9 but to a lessor extend.

As for the failed to eject I really have no idea as I have not had that issue or a FTF with either of my pistols. I would suggest as the others have to try some different ammo and if the problem does not go away to call Ruger and send it back.

The one time I have dealt with their CS it was outstanding.

I have also read on some other forums that in the past month or so that there have been some bad WWB hitting the shelves. Complaints have included rounds being rusted, dented and smelling like vinagar or simply not firing. Personally I have had no problems shooting WWB in my guns. It is what they have both eaten the most as it is what is most usually available around here.

Good luck to ya

Hard to imagine with the demand for ammo that there would be any old stock anywhere. Maybe Winchester found a trailerload that was lost in a warehouse and shipped it out.

I KNOW that my light primer-hits were caused by the gun, and not by WWB ammo. Ruger replaced my striker assembly and it works fine now, as I ran 260 WWB and Federal thru it last wkend.

It did not eject the round. Not a stove pipe but more on top of the new round.
Grip was firm.

I'm a little confused. I know what a stove pipe is but what did you mean by more on top of the round?"

Was the slide partially retracted and the case was bulging up in the middle? Was it tilted up at all? Have you shot it more than just that one time?

Just the one time so far. The round never ejected. It was above the new round the was chambering but the old round never cleared.

That would probably be a short load, it didn't have enough umph to cycle the pistol. Limp wristing does the same thing but WWB can and has done this for me, it is not very often, it happened this past weekend with a .45, once in about 75 rounds.

Just put a little extra oil on the slide rails and run a couple mags of Cor-Bon's. Or any ammo thats a little hotter than the cheap stuff.

Well after reading this I decided to look at my new SR9c. I have only shot 26 rounds so far, but I have not had any problems with mine. The gun is tight but smooth to shoot and ejects and loads without a problem. Guess I need to hit the range and put about a couple of hundred rounds thru it and then get back to ya'll. Just courious, is yours the brushed stainless or black, wondering if that might have something to with it. Mine is the Black and was told that the brushed stainless has sharp sides on the slide. I field stripped my black one and the slide was not sharp and did not need to knock off the edge. Just a guess it may be snagging on the slide with that sharp edge!

I think the 115 gr is the problem. I had a bunch of stove pipes with mine in the first 50 rds. I was using Remington 115 gr. I bought some 124 gr. Ruag brand ammo (Switzerland) that my local walmart had the same time I bought the Remmy ammo. Ran about 100 rds of that through there with no problems at all, then the Remmy stuff had a lot fewer problems.

Try running some 124 gr stuff through it for a while, then try the 115 gr again and see if things have improved.

It was suggested to me to leave the slide open, locked back with slide release, overnight and it should loosen up a bit.

Tried that and it help alot. Heading out to the range this weekend to try her out again. Will keep you posted. Thanks for the tips.

I just took my new 9c out (or should I say "In" ) to the range.
Got a box of cheep 115 gr FMJ ammo and went and fired them off.
GREAT little gun!!! :P Not one problem and I put them on target! Of the first ten rounds fired at 10 yards All were in the 9 ring and three X's.
I went ahead and ran another box plus some JHP's (125 Rd's total) and not a single issue.
I will agree that the slide is a little stiffer than my SIG or Glock, but I never gave it a second thought until I read this post. (Now that I thing about it my LCP's slide is stiffer too).

Lateck,

Lateck,

Happy for you! Yeah, its like getting a new puppy, we want it to do what we want, but hey.. its a puppy and its gonna do what puppies do. Once WE get acclimated to them, not them to us....things appear to get a little better. At least thats been my experience with several guns I own. Continued luck with your puppie and most of all have fun and stay safe.

Finaly back to the range with the SR9c. Tried out 5 different brands/kinds of ammo this time and had better results.
Also followed one of the post about about leaving the slide rack for a few days and that help alot.
Here is the recap:
Winchester 115gr 100 rd target box- Still the same issue. At best got 2 rounds off before I got stovepipes.
Remington 115 gr white/green box- Fired most of the time but had at least 1 or 2 per mag that would not cycle the slide enough to work the action. It chambered but the trigger was not reset.
Indepedence 115 gr - Worked great. Went through 2 ten rd mags and 2 17 rd mags with no problems.
Blazer 115 gr Aluminum case - No problem. Went through 2 of each mag with no problems.
Blazer Gold 115 gr- Same as above. No problem.
I fired the Winchester in my SR9 and had no issues. The SR9c just does not like it.
Also, the SR9c shot very good. like the feel with the short mag for CCW.

Thanks for all the help and tips.

I picked up a new SR9c Stainless this afternoon for $370 + tax. I won't get to shoot it for a couple of weeks. Not sure I am going to like the 17 rd mag, I may have to buy another 10 rd or trade the 17 rd to someone for another 10 rd. I am sure it will be as dependable as the rest of my Rugers.
