So here's my question. I have a new model single six that I'm rebuilding. I noticed the pin that holds the rear sight in place is well low enough that it looks like I can flatten the top to a flat top look. I'm sure someone has don't this. I just haven't seen it. A link or pics would be nice. Thanks.

I don't have a single six with the flattop look, but I think this is what you seek:

This one happens to be a highly modified SS Blackhawk chambered in 44 Spl.

I'm sure filing and polishing. Can you show the top side pic and any snags you hit doing this?

Welcome to the Forum!
movingmd,,, Please read his post. He did not do this conversion. That gun shown was made by Ruger that way.

I don't want to hi-jack your thread by focus on this revolver, so hoping this will answer your questions. This gun started in the Ruger factory in 1981 as a .357 mag Blackhawk. I obtained it many years later when I saw it for sale in a gunshop and noted to the salesperson that the hole in the barrel was larger than .357 even though it was still marked as .357. At some time in it's life it had been converted to .44 Special - way before Ruger started making their .44 Special models. I did the "flattop" modification, originally wanted to install an old "Micro" marked sight but kind of lost interest and it wasn't very different with all the NM Ruger factory flattops coming out. Here are some more pics showing the areas you requested:

I stand corrected,,,!
I thought cellar701 had posted pics of a Factory Flattop. MY MISTAKE!!!!!!!!
Nice looking conversion there!

That's the pic I've wanted to see. Thank you. I'm thinking of doing this to my blackhawk. I like the look a little better than how it is now.
