New 45 Colt load to test

Just finished loading up a batch of 45 Colt.

Winchester once fired cases
Winchester LP Primers
255 grain Bear Creek Supply rnfp bullet
5.5 grain Trail Boss - which works out to be an upper mid-range load. Should be around 700 fps or so.
COL = 1.6" with a mild crimp


Handloading calculator says $7.55 a box of fifty, as opposed to the $32-$36 a box that 45 Colt cowboy loads typically bring around here. If I use new brass, the price goes up to $19 a box of fifty.

I don't know how anyone could afford to shoot if they don't reload.
I just calculated yesterday that it cost me about $22 for a 50ct. box of 240gr. 44mag. using 24gr. of H110. And that's not including brass cost.
But if you had to go buy those 44mags at the store they'd probably cost you around $75.
I use 5.5gr. of Titegroup behind 255gr. cast. It's a very mild load. A little smokey but the accuracy is pretty good.

Never bought any .45 Colt ammo, only brass, same with .44 Spc., hope the Trail Boss load works out well for you. For the standard .45 and .44 loads, Unique has done pretty good by me, not always the best from some angles, but it would put meat on the table for sure. Picked up some American Select to try.

most of my guns have never had a factory load shot through them, and those that do are rimfires....and, of course, the .25 ACP.
