I try very hard to NOT TO make assumptions. Further more, this person sounds very new to guns and ammo, and definitely did not know the difference between pistols an revolvers, which is very common on this forum. One person here went so far to say that since Samuel Colt mentioned pistols with his new invention, that this makes revolvers pistols! What utter nonsense. Colt made the first revolvers, so everything before his invention that was a handgun was a pistol!↑ You, and the rest of us, knew what he meant
There is a lot of BS on this forum, with lots of preconceived beliefs/ideas, and prejudice (like, 9mm is a great bear humting ammo, or that the .40 cal is a powerful pistol (usually stated as a semi auto instead of using the correct term 'pistol'), Even some say that the 10mm is a power pistol as well! While it is more powerful than the .40 cal, it is still quite weak, but 'vastly' more powerfull than the pea shooter 9mm .
Often, when I try to inform/educate here, I get a lot of flack and derogitory comments.
Not about to touch your pistol comment, but as far as getting derogatory remarks it seems to be a habit some here do repeatedly just for the fun of it. Often there is no basis for it.

It is rather a silly argument, but a worthy discussion. The pistol actually preceded the shoulder arm. Chinese. The revolver dates at least back to puckle, and collier. The revolving pistol predates colt's improvements, and likewise predates the automatic pistol.
Thus, to be precise the way some think, if the revolver is not a pistol, then the autoloader is no pistol either.

this is like saying if cugnot's threewheeler is the original automobile, a powered 4 wheeler is not an automobile, nor is a powered 4x4, and they cannot be called an automobile. Which totally ignores fulton's amphibious 2 wheel drive 4 wheeler.
Semantics is important, sho-nuff, but parsing it up can get silly. A revolver is just as much a pistol as the johnny-come-lately automatic-loader. If a pistol is only a singleshot frontstuffer, the multiple bore muzzleloaders arent pistols either, nor are the screwbarrels, duckfootses, and doubke-barrrels (which are neither over-under nor side-by-side, the second barrel actually being the grip for firing the other barrel), nor even the pepperboxes of sequential-fired or all-fired variety. Then there are the singlebarrel cartridge fed breechloaders and breachloaders.
