re: .375Ruger pet loads.
My favorite loads are as follows:
225gr Hornady PtSpt; 77.0gr RL15, Hornady case, Win MRP or Fed 215
gives about 2,850fps (23" M77MkII "African"). Not a warm load, just a minimum "accuracy" load. This is where the groups tightened. This is a superlative whitetail deer load (and other such light big-game). 1-1.5moa
235gr Speer Semi-pt "Hot-Cor"; 75gr RL15. Similar to above load. This gives similar performance to a .30/06 w/180gr bullet. Except of course for the divot in the ground behind the deer! This is a sub-moa (3-shots) in my rifle.
250gr Sierra BtSpt. 72.5gr RL15 gives 2,750fps and is stunning accurate. One three shot clover leaf, and numerous sub-moa 3-shot groups.
84.0gr IMR4350 will give over 2,900fps and essentially same accuracy. Long-range elk load.
270gr Hornady PtSpt; 82.5gr IMR4350; 2,800fps; anything in N.America, I would suggest the 300gr for largest bears, however.
I'm a "minimalist" with this cartridge. It dosen't need to be "hot-rodded" for most applications. The above listed "affordable" bullets are just fine for the lower 48 applications.
I found 3 boxes of 270gr Hornady RN (pre-interlok) for $18.00/50. Scarfed them up and ran. Ditto loose "bagged" Sierra 250gr BtSpt's. 130/$15 at flea-market.
For an "all purpose" cartridge, I don't believe there has ever been a better one. If you absolutely can't find ammo/brass; You can size a .300winmag case and load a cast bullet in it to fireform it. Or, you can put 15gr of Unique and top off case with grits or cream of wheat and a cleaning patch. Voila, a "coke bottle" looking .375Ruger case. The necks will be a little short, but no problem. They will have a sub-chamber waist just above the belt, but this dosen't affect chamber or case capacity. The first deer I shot with my .375 was with a 235gr Speer over 75.0gr of RL15 in a Winchester .300winmag case reformed as described. I'm loathe to loose one of my $.$$ .375Ruger cases on a measly deer.....
Now, if someone will make a .375" flat-nose GasCheck mould with a long fore-section bore-riding design suited for the .375H&H and .375Ruger.
btw; I did a trigger job on my rifle and cut the stock by 1/2" and installed a Pachmayer red "old english" recoil pad. It's a joy to shoot even with full power loads (ie: factory duplication).
