Am not bashing Dodge/Chrysler. It just happens to be ad in front of me. Ram Laramie Longhorn Crew Cab Ecodiesel 4x4. With a title that long, you know your gonna get hosed. Lots is made of the MPG which, truly is a better step up than Ford had and marketed the bleep outta. But with a "as tested" price of 55,000 bazillion dollars, you'd have to own it until your grandkids die to make out. I just want a TRUCK. Not a rolling video game. I can read a map, keep the onstar, GPS,etc... Keep the carpeting on the roof, it's a truck ! I want to be able to haul a wet birddog in it. Maybe even a few dead birds. I'm not a yuppie, or a metro-sexual, I do not want to be either of those things. Who will market a REAL truck, a 4x4, no frills, no widgets, gagits, crapzits, BS stuff. Just a TRUCK.

Steve, I bought a stripper service ford 1 ton diesel 4x4, you know the all white commercial trucks that companies use as fleet trucks. It has the vinyl floor and seat, FM radio, nothing fancy at all but it is all business. I changed out the black grill with a white one I got off of Ebay just to differentiate it from the fleet trucks.
I think that is probably the closet you can get to what I think you are looking for.

The last one I bought was a new xcab Sierra in 2004. It was about as basic as you can get...well almost. It had the 4.8/285hp V-8 instead of the six,4 spd auto with l/u converter,a/c,am/fm stereo,vinyl mats,cloth seat coverings and base-trim exterior. It was only 16.6K which was a very low price...most of the sixes cost more at the time. They had two at that price;the other had sold when I got there.
Maybe you can order one the way you like but I don't believe they make the wet dog types anymore.

Steve: Mine is an 08, I bought and installed the Ranch Hand grill guard, the white grill, and the running boards. I paid about $32,000 in 08, a gasser would have been about $6,000 cheaper. It has just about every truck option, i.e. tranny cooler, tow package, camper package etc.. I buried my Kubota 4x4 tractor a couple of months ago and I hooked this up and it pulled it out with know problems. I tow my Kubota and 6' finish mower on a dual axle 18' trailer monthly and if you couldn't see it you would not know you are towing anything!
By the way it has manual windows and door locks also.

JMO but I think white cars and trucks are quite attractive, one thing is they don't show dirt as bad as most other colors. My truck does have two cupholders and auto trans. but it has been one heck of a truck. As far as electronics go there is nothing motorized that doesn't include electronics, refrigerators, washing machines, riding lawn mowers and even circular/table saws.

You want a truck without all the gadgets and gizmos? Pretty simple? I've got your example sitting in my driveway, its just a little on the vintage side. Manual windows, manual doors, bench seat, 390 V8 and an automatic to boot. Today it hauled some plywood and bags of cement.

You guys must really hate the 2015 Ford F150 with the all ALUMINUM body. Like a beer can.
My last truck was (is) a stripped down Dodge Ram. The only option I got was the hemi engine. Had vinyl floors and even window cranks. I've added stuff over the years but I always start off with the base model.

Just don't dent it or have a wreck for the first couple of years. It's going to take a while for body shops to get the tools and know-how to fix it. Ford says within the first year 80% of the population will be within 30 miles of a qualified shop (or something close that, can't find that article right now). Guess who that leaves out? Oh yeah, all of the backwoods belly achers who aren't buying new trucks anyhow. :?

I kinda of wonder what kind of repairs will be done? With aircraft, if a skin is damaged, dented, scratched you cut out the damage and install a patch over it. That sure would not be very attractive. I am sure more rework can be done on a truck skin, as we are not allowed to reform the skin at all on aircraft due to possible stress cracking under pressurization.
I am guessing with the new aluminum body panels there will be a lot of panel replacements instead of beat, fill and paint. If aluminum is creased it is much more likely to crack then steel.

I recently bought a 2012 GMC work truck, regular cab. Manual windows and locks, no carpeting. Does have air and cruise. And I did need 4WD. I guess I am not very loyal to any one brand. Had a Dodge prior to this one and a Ford before that. Buy whatever I find at the time.

Good God. $55K for a half-ton pickup. And the heavy-duty diesel pickups - Ram, Ford and Chevy alike - are going for up to $70K. Of course, that's because most pickup buyers don't really want a work truck; they want a Cowboy Cadillac.
Last new pickup I looked at was a Ford F-150 Raptor, purely for giggles. They wanted $62,500 for it.

Older Son tried to make his 1/2 ton Dodge do the work of a REAL pickup but that went badly and he ended up selling it to a guy who had lower expectations. He finally had to settle for a rebuilt salvage title 01 Chevy that at least has the drivetrain and brakes to handle a load.

On a high dollar vehicle. Once you spend the cash to get the base model, the extra gizmos don't add up to that much more money. If you are buying a cheap car, you can easily double the final cost by adding the extras.
