talk about a crappy day. I hope the driver recovers.
I hope the engineer had his windows closed.
The lead locomotive was the Nickel Plate Heritage Unit. I looked up the incident using that locomotive in my search. It's all over the train watching and railroad sites. It would be pretty bad for the driver on that truck. But it was a certain look to the impact and the fact that the train seemed to react, It makes me wonder if it’s not AI.
The guy filming it is a railfan who told the news that he videos trains as a hobby.Something smells here........
No, seriously... why was someone filming that? This does not seem to be a dash camera shot because the camera operator pans with the truck as it rolls.
that's kind of what I was thinking ... one of those train watching nuts.....The guy filming it is a railfan who told the news that he videos trains as a hobby.
It was a private rail crossing with no signal lights or gates.
I don't blame him. Drive Ok though?I know it takes a long time to stop a train, but it didn’t look like it was stopping at all.
it probably took it at least a mile to stop . . . they don't stop on a dime just because something is in their pathI know it takes a long time to stop a train, but it didn’t look like it was stopping at all.
I know that, but usually you hear a difference in the way it sounds. As it transitions from power on to power off.it probably took it at least a mile to stop . . . they don't stop on a dime just because something is in their path
After seeing and smelling what was hit the urgency to stop probably wasn’t there.it probably took it at least a mile to stop . . . they don't stop on a dime just because something is in their path
That appears to have been precisely the reaction of the railfan filming the train. Who also probably got some of the spray himself, unless he had his windows closed.Holy!!
perhaps the driver was another illegal.....That appears to have been precisely the reaction of the railfan filming the train. Who also probably got some of the spray himself, unless he had his windows closed.
As for the driver: What part of "stop, look and listen" do you not understand? Isn't it the law in most states for drivers of heavy trucks to stop at railroad crossings, even private crossings, and look before proceeding?
Maybe, just maybe, he wasThat appears to have been precisely the reaction of the railfan filming the train. Who also probably got some of the spray himself, unless he had his windows closed.

I checked several news sources and none of them disclose the driver's name.....which is a good indication you may be right.Did the driver speak or read English?
"Yo no sabe nada"
They should probably give him the "Cat in the Hat" test if he recovers.Did the driver speak or read English?
"Yo no sabe nada"
Yeah, the engineer should have just swerved around the truck...right?it probably took it at least a mile to stop . . . they don't stop on a dime just because something is in their path
I would think school bus would be number 1.My BIL drove trains his whole life. He said log trucks were the only vehicles they feared hitting.
For human destruction a school bus would be the worst thing. A log truck could have logs smash through the cab of the locomotive.I would think school bus would be number 1.

I knew a guy who was pulling 96 carloads of coal with a 2 locomotive power unit. He had a woman with 3 kids in a Dodge van go around a down set of caution gates while she was talking on her cellphone. He was eye to eye contact with her as the locomotive hit the van killing all 4 occupants.
He has had to have counseling to help him get through the incident. It has to be a horrible thing to live with.
While hitting a school bus would be horrible, the school buses around me are pretty good at stopping at all railroad crossings and opening the doors before proceeding.I would think school bus would be number 1.
