My industry used to be pretty much one man or woman (yes there were and are) operations... not it is pretty much like other service business ... plumbing, electrical, carpet cleaning.... all about employees and training and keeping them. I've never had employees ... I did have a friend who road with me for a year or more and was a general helper... this summer my state origination, S.C. Chimney sweep Guild is hosting a ropes class... which I'm going help out with as a support. 38 folks have signed up for 3 classes, so many we had to break them down... each class is 2 days. this is training on how to rope off when going on and working on a roof.... seems that is the big thing now.... big sweep company in Virginia lost an employee a couple years back and now it seems employers of companies are out to try and cover themselves or such... I took a class a few years back but pretty much still never do rope off... there are better ways... but then some of this is hypocritical since I have fallen off a roof twice in the last 43 years... first time probably 30+ years ago I just lay there for a minute and got up and went back to work... the last time I didn't.
