I have a pair of the older Redhawks in 357 and these will be part of my display for the upcoming Idaho show. I am trying to get the straight scoop on when these 357's were built---not just mine but the entire line of 357 RedHawks.
In the Ruger and his guns book, it shows these were made from 1984 until 1991. I always thought these were a much shorter run made in 1984-1985. I have hunted all over including the Rene book. The Rene book shows serial number prefix # 501 from 1984-1987 but does not specify caliber. I know these are somewhat scarce, but does anyone know for sure what years they were built in 357 and any idea how many were built in 5.5" and how many in 7.5"?

I don't know the answers to your questions but am sure several of the more knowledgeable double action guys will chime in.

What I DO know is I'd like to find a correct box for my 5.5 inch 357 and my blued 5.5 inch 41.

Numbers are very slim on those blued 41s too I believe,

If you check the RENE Guide,, on the Redhawks,, (Volume Two) page 11 (in the full sized book,) bottom right paragraph.
KRH-355 serial number range 501-11928 to 501-49595 probably not more than 5000 made. KRH-35 runs from serial number 501-05039 to 501-51358, with probably not more than 5000 made.
So, using that info,, with the earliest known .357 Redhawk being the KRH-35, serial number 501-05039 to the highest number, 501-51358, that puts the years of production as only 1984 & 1985.

The exception to this is the U501-04016,, a model KRH-35,, and it's the only known "used" one.

So,, to sum up the production timeframe,, only for (2) years,, and a total quantity of 10,000 possible.

k2nd,, good info. Do you have the box or a letter to verify things? This kind of info helps us update & correct the RENE Guide. Thanks!

Contender, unfortunately I was not the original owner so no box or paperwork came with the Redhawk. I'm thinking about getting a letter from Ruger after the holidays.
