O.K. Maybe I'm gettin' cranky in my old age. But the one current expression among the "in-the-know" crowd that's sort of getting old to me is a trendy expression. The projectile fired from small arms, no matter the construction; cast lead, swaged lead, jacketed, semi-jacketed, or machined bronze; is a BULLET.

This childish word "boolit" needs to go the way of the infantile "wa-wa" for water and the term "sippy-cup."

The Lone Ranger never left behind any silver "boolits."

It is a shorthand way of saying it. "Slugs I cast myself at home"

My bullets means you bought them.

My boolits means you made them.

I'm not defending it, just explaining why.

And yes over time without proper protection casting bullets will make you simple.

Actually, I lived in the South for a bit. We didn't shoot no fancy "bullets" down there- we shot boolits. Bullets and "projectiles" (whatever they are) are for yankees.

Call it what you wish; it doesn't make it correct. Just went to SAAMI and checked. Here is what they post (please note the spelling):
"BULLET
A non-spherical projectile for use in a rifled barrel and sometimes contained within a sabot.

BULLET CASTING
A process for making lead bullets by pouring molten metal into a mold."
Nowhere did they ever mention "boolits".

"Boolits" is only slang for bullets/ammo - just like using "reckon" instead of suppose/guess, or "tater" for potato.

Hey...Me and Bob (and a few others here, I believe) have gone through and seen a lot to get to the age we are now. Sometimes something will just get stuck in our craw and we have to gripe a bit about it. So give us a bit of a break and just let it slide. You don't have to agree with us.

Been on the Castboolits forum for probably as long. It took me a while to get used to the nomenclature there. I just accepted it and rock on.....

Much ado about nothing. Bullets or Boolits, Bullet or Cartridge, Magazine or Clip, Pistol or Revolver. I am sure in other fields there are adulterated words for quite a few things. Using the right word is always better but sometimes humans make mistakes and sometimes they try to justify what they believe to be correct. Here on this forum we have a whole culture of naming Ruger handguns in a way that Ruger never intended.

I understand the OP's feelings & frustrations. However,, as noted,,, it's a different website,,, so we here shouldn't have any say-so about it at all.

That said,,, I had it explained to me years ago by a forgotten source,,, that there was an ACTUAL REASON why they named their website using boolits,,, vs. bullets. It had to do the with the politically (in)correct website designers & nameless anti-gun folks who wanted to block references to anything firearm related. By using a different spelling,,, it allowed many computer users to be able to access the casting website & get around the embedded filters the anti-gun designers tried to force upon us. Remember,,, many firearm related sites are not allowed on some computers,,, so this was a way to bypass their stupidity & allow free speech.

So,, while it isn't a properly spelled term,, it is a way to allow anybody to bypass those hidden anti-gunners who want to force their views upon us. And,, we gun folks,, well,,,, we are smart enough to know what it means.

Being retired and taking chemotherapy among other things.... I don't know when it started, but as of late I snap pretty quickly, unless I walk away. I think it started with the "cuddle dogs."
