Not at all gun related (unless you consider being able to see while you
work on them) . . . I happened across the "GE bright stik" at Sam's club
and decided to try one package (six of them). They are slightly lower
priced than the CFLs AND are not a mercury "problem" that the CFLs
are. Sam's has them (here) for $14.98 for 6.

Installed a set in my back bed/computer/gun room and all I can say is
WOW! Thirty percent lower current draw (9w v 13w) for the
equivalent to a 60w incandescent bulb. Instant on, rather than the slow
light up of the CFL, and color is good, at the minimum.

Was going to get another set or two from Sam's and thought I should
look at Amazon. Prime price is $12.89, so I ordered three sets. If they
last as long as they are rated, I should not need to buy light bulbs again.

:D YMMV, but I'm very pleased! :D

P.S. NOT rated for totally enclosed fixtures!

Part of the reason for the better light is the Bright Stik is
1) LED
2) You probably got the 5000k which is a much brighter light than a standard bulb which is 2700k

The best light without any color influence is 4000k
2700k is yellow, 5000k and above is blue

4000k is right in the middle

Better light IS a huge impact - good for you

:D Turns out the carton says "2700K". :D

I like it and thought others might also.

OK, glad you shared

If you ever get a chance to get & compare 4000k bulbs THAT will be an eye saver and a real nice light - just sayin'

We started going to LED bulbs around our house. We LOVE them compared to the twisty mercury filled ones that don't last anywhere near as long as the 7 years they claim.
Just picked up some at Menards for under a buck a bulb. Nice daylight 5500 bulbs.

I haven't tried the Light Stick but I've replaced all my bulbs with LEDs. CFLs are crap! The LED technology has solved everything that's wrong with incandescent and CFL bulbs IMO. There's probably some negative aspects to the things from a manufacturing or disposal angle, but if they last as long as they promise, the life and energy savings may make up for it.

The CFLs lose their efficiency pretty quickly in comparison in my experience. The CFL says 'long life & low wattage', but they're pretty well used up in a year as far as their ability to provide illumination!

Best regards, Pete

The sets I got from Amazon just came in. I bought them for $12.89 and
. . . guess what . . . the price, now, is $14.89 with Prime.

Sam's Club has them for that price and it doesn't cost you $100/yr
for your membership (mine is $45/yr). I think Amazon is about to price
themselves out of the market they are trying to create.

I mention this because it is the fifth item in one month that has
experienced a price increase. One pair of slippers I bought went up
$18 in three days after I ordered them!

I thought this was going to be about beer...

We can always make this about beer, not light beer because that's an oxymoron, but real beer. I just had a nice glass of Alaskan Amber from my old neighborhood. Life is good.
