Voyager 1 will soon be one light day from Earth

This just illustrates the vastness of space. I see these representations of all the satellites around Earth, and people are panicking because they think they're all going to crash into each other. But they don't realize these models don't show the relative sizes of the satellites to Earth or the multiple orbital paths around Earth, ranging from about 100 miles to 22,000 miles or so. You've got to think three-dimensionally. That's why it's called space, because there's a lot of space for things up there. Also, there's a lot of distance. As in the OP, Voyager 1 making it to one light day. The closest star to us is about 4.5 light-years away. So, it took Voyager 50 years to do one light day. To make it to the closest star, it would take Voyager 82,125 years. I saw a report the other day that said the closest Earth-like planet is orbiting a star about 40 light-years away. It would take Voyager 730,000 years to get to that one. Humans (homo sapiens) have only been on Earth for about 300,000 years. This is why, even though I believe there is likely some intelligent life out there, just due to the massive number of stars and planets, we will never know for sure and never have contact with it. Even at the speed of light, if we ever manage to achieve that, to get to this closest Earth-like planet would take, obviously, 40 years. And any astronaut going there would probably be at least 65 years old upon arrival, as they'd likely be at least 25 when they left, due to the education and training involved. Despite the billions of stars in our galaxy, there are only about 2,000 stars within 50 light-years distance from Earth, so that cuts the possibility of intelligent life "close" to us down quite a bit.

However, time for you would be dilated by a factor of 22.366 so you would age by only 50/22.366 which is 2.24 years so you would not look 70+ years but rather 22.24 years and it would feel like a 2.24 year journey.”

Found this on the net. I was aware of the concept where those traveling at the speed of light age far less than those on earth but this quoted example explains it better than I could have without detailed research.
 
All thoughts of time and distance are based on current knowledge of time and space. Of course, mankind once thought the earth was both flat and in the center of the universe. Pretty sure there are quite a few other accepted (at the time) bits of knowledge that just haven't held up in the light of new information.

I always liked the line "the impossible just takes a little longer".

Time is also effected by gravity - Time dilation. And then there's Dark Energy/Dark Matter. I don't recall who said this, but: "The Universe is not only strange; it's stranger than we can imagine."

The trouble is we are trapped inside of our little 3 dimensional spacetime box. If we can find a way out of it, then perhaps interstellar travel would be feasible.

My poor brain. I am stunned by how long it takes a signal to reach Voyager 1.
24 hours for the signal to reach it, then the techs wait another 24 hours for a response. 🤯

It is literally impossible to visualize the size of the universe. It probably does not matter if there is intelligent life elsewhere as it is most unlikely that we or they would ever become aware of the other.

I was 26 when the first moon landing took place. I was confident at that time that I would get to see humans set foot on Mars. Now I doubt that I will be around long enough to see this happen.

If you really want a surprise, find a spot in the desert, or someplace flat and open like that, and take scale model planets (where the Earth is the size of a golf ball - which would make the sun about 15 feet in diameter) and place them at their scale model distances from the sun. Neptune would be about 48,523.6 feet (or 9.1 miles) from the sun. Pluto (which we don't count as a planet anymore), would be about 63,287.4 feet (or about 12 miles), from the sun. The closest star, Proxima Centauri, in this scale model, would be 431,745,600 feet (or 81,770 miles) away (about 34% of the way to the moon). This is why it's called "Space". There's a lot of space in Space. By the way, for the scale model of the solar system, even without Proxima Centauri added to the model, you're going to need a vehicle to take the scale planets to their scale locations.
 
The issue is we humans, even with our advanced intelligence, can't see past the speed of light, which is pretty dern fast. But Einstein was realizing their was a dimension, property or force or what ever you want to call it that was not dependent on the speed of light but was instantaneous all across the universe.... I think gravity actually works on this principle.

I have faith and the expectation that some here can explain this better than me.

Basically there is not enough 'normal' matter (Stars, planets, etc.) in the universe to account for gravitational effects due to known mass, so there must be something that we cannot easily detect or put in a bucket or your suitcase. That is called Dark Matter, and an equivalent of "normal" energy is called Dark Energy.
