Single-Sixer
Last weekend my buddy had some tables at a gun show. He said if I had anything I wanted to sell I was welcome to use some space. I dug through the flotsam and jetsam that I have accumulated over the years with the goal of selling enough goodies to get an SR1911 Commander off layaway at the LGS.
SUCCESS! As soon as the doors closed Saturday afternoon I scurried off to beat closing time at the LGS and just made it as they were giving the fifteen minute announcement.
Here she be.
Over all I'm tickled, but there is a couple of niggling little things.
First, the trigger has a slight catch to it and is a wee bit on the heavy side. I'm hoping it will smooth up with use.
Also, I think the employees had been playing with it at some time as it came with two seven round mags rather than an eight and a seven. There was a five inch at the store when I put this one on layaway and I'll bet they were comparing the two and got the mags switched. Whoever got the five inch likely ended up with two eight rounders. I'm not worried about it. I prefer the flush fit of the sevens.
Which leads into the second thing. They don't sit flush. They hang down a trifling bit.
At first I thought that maybe the catch slot was cut a bit low, but I popped a Wilson in and same thing. Sooo, I switched the mag catch out with a (ahem) Kimber one and voila! Problem solved.
Now please bear with me for the rest of the saga.
Saturday was a record attendance for this show. There were so many people that my buddy and I didn't even get out from behind the tables except for quick potty breaks. Between that and my hasty departure I never got to check out the goodies on the other tables. So Sunday morning I got there early and was walking the aisles when WHAM! I laid eyes on my Marsha Brady, my Mary Ann, my, my,,, Barbie Benton!
A pre Series 70 Colt Commander .38 Super. But oh no! I had spent the better part of the previous days take on the Ruger and the guy wasn't interested in any trades for what I had left. Nothing to do but pull up my big boy pants and sell, sell, sell. Every hour I would tally my shekels and look to see if it was still there. Once about 1:30 I saw someone pick it up and could see lips moving and head shaking and I was preparing for my hopes to be dashed but it was laid back upon the table. It was a nail biter. I really didn't think I was going to pull it off. It was getting on to 3:30 and about all that was left was the guys that always think they can get things cheaper at the end of the show. You know, the same ones that have already asked you four times if you'll go any cheaper on something and all they succeed in doing is tick you off.
Well, I looked up and here comes the guy who had been drubbing me over an old scope I had. I'm gritting my teeth preparing for the usual and I'll be sheep dipped if he didn't just hand over the asking amount. That put me five bucks over the cash price for the Colt. I thanked him profusely and made warp speed across the room.
She ain't perfect, but she's mine.
All in all a good weekend.
