SR 1911 Commander 9mm recoil spring

Fired my new Commander for the first time. Ran about 100rds of asst 115 gr ammo and about 10% of the time the pistol failed to return to battery (slight push of the thumb was required). Should I consider going to a heavier recoil spring. or will the pistol loosen up after a little more shooting? This is strictly a range gun; I anticipate using 115gr FMJ ammo almost exclusively.

My Lightweight Commander in 9mm has been flawless ….. all factory.
If you have the same, I’d just give it a good cleaning, lube and run it again.

I think they run best wet.

I would check extractor tension and function before I changed the recoil spring on a new gun.

Factory recoil spring weight from the 9mm LE commander is 10#, available from Ruger. No problems with 124 gr ammo.

I've left my LW commander in mostly original condition, except for the grips and the sights. The dovetails are Novak, and I replaced the sights with a set of Tru-Glo tritium fiber optic combo sights.

I cleaned and lubed before I shot it; maybe it needs a little more break in.

I've decided to reach out to Ruger before I invest in any more ammo. Probably extractor tension, awaiting their reply.

Not sure I’ve ever heard someone report back on a semi auto that more shooting it fixed it.

I doubt it will loosen up. I would talk to Ruger first. Otherwise, You may need to polish the feed ramp and chamber to remove tool marks. If the problem still exists, try a heavier recoil spring.

Contacted Ruger Customer Svc; they requested I return it for evaluation. It's on its way back to Ruger.

Received back from Ruger. They replaced the recoil spring and firing pin spring.

I replaced my recoil spring with a #12 pound spring and it ran perfectly.

100 rds of 115gr FMJ today without a single hiccup. Apparently Ruger put in a stronger recoil spring.

My Ruger sr1911 in 9mm took 3 mags to start running properly. It would stovepipe 2 out of each mag. It is at 700 now and runs flawlessly.
