Commander or Full Size?

Thinking of getting a 1911. Havent had one for 25 years. Ive owned all 3 sizes. Since I wont carry I dont need the Officers. Whats your vote, Commander or Full size?

I prefer full size.

I have held several of these in my hand and despite what others might say I find them quite small and light weight. I couldn't fathom shrinking one down any smaller.

And of course getting one chambered in a Nazi cartridge is not only blasphemous but unpatriotic to boot!

The size differences are mitigated more by the style of holster than the comparison between barrel lengths.

I’ve got full size, commander, cco, and subcompact 1911’s, and I like them all and think each has a place. I’ve carried them all.
My only concern is functionality and reliability and have no concern of “velocity loss”.

The obvious vote would be for the one the fits in your hand better!

Only difference in the two is 3/4" of barrel/slide length, and sometimes the hammer and/or the spur on the grip safety...the grip dimensions are identical.

Have been considering an Officer size as an EDC. I have a full size but it is a bit large for my skinny body to carry. I don't worry about felt recoil so that is not a problem.

I've always preferred the Commander length. It just feels and looks right to me. I sold my Officer's Model size gun because my lightweight Commander seemed just as easy to carry concealed. I do have one full size 1911, a 10mm Tisas that I like very much. With the 10mm, I think there's more advantage to the full-size 5" barrel due to velocity gain vs. 4.25", but with .45 ACP the difference is fairly small.

I have a Gold Cup, SA V-10, and a CZ Bob Tail Commander. All .45 ACP. Love 'em all but the Bob Tail the best. It's the most accurate and fastest. Only the V-10 has had a failure to feed. I carry the CZ in a Milt Sparks IWB or a Galco shoulder rig. The CZ also somehow feels lighter when carrying than my Kahr P45, which is my second fave carry gun.
Check out each 1911 platform, if you can. You will probably shoot best the one you like best.

I get your feelings, but for me and my arthritic hands the 9mm cartridge was a blessing for me in 1911 pistols. Less recoil and lower weight recoil spring made racking the slide much easier.
