I figured one of the Tennessee boys would get it right away.
Yep, ramps.
A mountain spring onion variety. To most, quite smelly when eaten, (and burped, sweated etc) but tasty! They are only available for a short period here in the hills, and sought after by those who enjoy the flavor. From chopped into eggs for breakfast, to cooked in with stir fry, to raw, they add a different flavor to dishes.
I had a mess of them with dinner the other night, and Miss Penny told me after the first burp, if that continued, I'd be sleeping on the couch. A glass of milk before bed & I was fine all night.

I have just enough left right now to enjoy some scrambled eggs, chopped ramps, & country ham for a good breakfast.

Since they are not native to Florida I missed digging and eating them when we lived up north. Now I have to resort to ordering them on line and I just got three pounds. Also waiting for fiddleheads to come in season so I can order some of them.

blume357 has heard the good stories. Ramps do give a person a special "odour" to whit, those around them may not fully appreciate. I need to get some more, that last bunch was tasty!

I had to check out the link just because I was curious about the T-shirt. Cool! I already knew about the Waynesville festival. We won't make it because my BSA Troop fundraising BBQ is the same day. I don't need a festival to enjoy the ramps!

Well.. if you do eat them, you'll need to stay on your side the mountain!!

I was gonna make a trip to Kingsport, loop through Bristol, and visit Johnson City. During which, I'll consume several ramps, accompanied by deviled eggs, washed down with a cold beer.

Yikes, deviled eggs and ramps. Sounds like a deadly combination. I have got to get out and get some before they are gone. Handful of ramps and a piece of butter bread. Mmmm good.
