Help Identify this critter

Never done this before.. but I'm going to try and attach just an audio file below. Sitting out here on my front porch at 5:30 in the morning and got this strange bark/yelp... not like any dog I've ever heard... I suspect I know what it is but want other's opinions...
Well it seems it won't let me upload the audio file and so I'm going to have to figure out how to make it a video file with just the sound....

Yep, I'd go with fox. We have a fair sized population of Red Fox. These aren't the cute ones most folks think of. They re almost the size of a coyote. They sound like that.

It was hard for me to hear,,, but I too think fox. Or,, possibly a young coyote. Both of them critters have a pretty extensive vocal repertoire.

Red Fox. I had one out back in the woods this early spring. Mating season is time for them to make the 'call'. At first I thought a woman was being tortured. It would wake me up several times during the night. I finally recorded it and did lots of research. Google search the Red Fox calls and you will identify it exactly.

I'm pretty sure it is a Red Fox... neighbors across the street saw it a few weeks ago early one morning while walking their dog.
I've heard Coyotes crying around here ... nothing like that. This was a very distinctive 'yip'.

Definitely a Red Fox.........hear it often here at night. I like to lip squeak them closer. Fun stuff.

Back in my predator contest days that bark was a sure sign your set got busted. Not fun when you have eyes dedicated and bouncing in and disappear...and then you hear that fading away. He's warning the rest.....

Having both the red fox and way too many coyotes I assure it's a red fox. Of interesting note, the two species will kill they young of the other species if given the chance. They are in direct competition for food here.

Around the area's I predator hunted if there were a ton of Reds you would be hard pressed to see many yotes. Where we killed the most yotes you hardly saw Reds but there were many Grays. Of course, Grays climb trees and don't get caught by Yotes as much.

That said. The first time my Son and I doubled off the same set he killed a good sized Red and I killed a Yote sneaking in behind me as he went to collect his Red. It was our first property of the night. Great start to a memorable night for sure. Been awhile though. 2019 contest.

Goodly number of years ago my wife and I were spending Christmas with her sister in law and nieces up on Virginia Beach and one morning early I looked out and there was a dead Red Fox out in the road that had been run over... did want the nieces to see that first thing in the morning so I went out and moved it planning to bury it later that day. Well we could not keep a secret and the younger niece really wanted to see it... then I said something about it was a waste to bury that beautiful fur and it ended up the neice and I skinned.. it ... I have no clue how to cure skin or fur but I salted it and packed it in ice and took it home planning to do some research... well I ended up keeping it stored in the freezer part of my beer refrigerator for well over a year until my wife insisted I do something with it. I called a contractor who would hire me on occasion to inspect a chimney in a house he was working on because I knew he hunted and fished... he said he new a place and bring it to him... I did.. the bad news was the fur had turned gray... don't know why.. the good news was when I got it back its was unbelievably soft... I made a head covering out of it in case I ever have to become a mountain man.

I don't think that was a Red Fox.....looks like a Gray Fox...I've taken a ton of Reds and Grays:

I know it looks like that now but it was red when I skinned it. I promise.

Blume that's a Gray Fox on your head. Reds don't have a black tail like that. They have a white tip. Juvenile Reds can sometimes appear grayish....but again all that black on the tail spells Gray Fox.

This is a red fox. It missed the pigeon but a short time later got a sea gull. Note this is full daylight.
