I like gun shows.

I have to admit I do like gun shows. There was one this weekend, but I didn’t hear about it until Saturday night. So I missed the first day. Sunday I had look twice as hard. But fortunately I found a very clean 2005 SP101 2-1/4” 357. Came with the box paper work, set of Hogue grips and a cheap holster. I’m thinking this hasn’t shot a box of ammo. I’m a 3” gun guy but I couldn’t pass up on how nice this was.

Have to get lucky once in awhile!!

There’s always a deal to be had, IF you’re there at the right time. Last summer my best deal was a NIB Vaquero .44 mag 4 5/8” stainless (high polish) for $519. Probably was the original 2005 selling price.

I miss the gun shows of the "old days". The time when many of the tables were not dealers but just another gun guy selling or trading off stuff for more stuff. I could look at interesting firearms and chat away with the seller. Sometimes buying and sometimes renting a table myself and selling. Talking more than selling. Either side of the table was a great time. Bought some really interesting guns over the years :) and sold too many of them as well :-( The shows I've been to in recent years are black rifles and plastic pistols. All fungible, highly functional, practical, and very "uninteresting". I have my AR, Glocks and other uninteresting guns like everyone else but I miss the old gun shows. I seldom go to a gun show anymore.

thats when they were "collectors shows" , you could not be a "dealer" ata those shsows had to be at your 'licensed premises'...than I believe in around 1984 they opened up the shows to the "dealers" guy across from me this weekend had 19 tables!!:oops:

so anytime you can find 'something'; or move something, its a good show..........;)

This past weekend I was surrounded by Garands and nice ball ammo for them (which I did not buy any of unfortunately) and a guy several tables up had a good many old SAAs. I really wanted to look at those but I was afraid to.

As it was I did pick up a nice Win94 (paid more than I wanted to but that's life). That one goes in my personal safe.

For me it was like going to the museum and having a key to the exhibit cases.

I have a C&R FFL so going to the out of state gun shows is a great time always. Even the worst show is a great excuse to leave CA for a day or so. Always something to buy. I picked up this BH flat top last year at the Reno Show. Been going there for about 20 years now.

I used to attend the gun shows fairly often, would drop the wife off at the Casino for awhile as I attended the gun show. My wife has decided that the Casino is just an expensive waste of time, and I really don't need any more guns, so I seldom go anymore. I do kind of miss it though.

Naw, I was making her the scapegoat, and that wasn't fair. She would not say a word if I went to the gunshow. She has been a model wife for the last 50 some years as far as not complaining about me spending money on guns and accessories. :) (y)

And I sail right by that stuff then concentrate on the more interesting items. Deals and interesting stuff is out there to be found. I leave the tacticool stuff to the “newbies”, and better yet, they all sail right by the things that are more interesting to me!

I hear ya, I for one don't like crowds, and walking a long way just is no good for my low back and hips any longer.. I vote for just looking at my LGS's and if I find something, at least I know them, and they know me.

I still love gun shows, but I miss the good old days. Too much tacticool stuff and the overseas junk accessories that go with it now. And the inflated prices! I can almost always find the same items cheaper online. At least that was the trend in Central Oregon. I haven’t been to any of the shows in Southern Oregon- I just moved. But I grew up going to the big shows at the Pomona Fairgrounds in the late 70’s- miles of walking. Tons of stuff. Back then you just paid cash and went home with your new prize. The shows in Salt Lake were great too.

Anytime we know of a show we attend if possible. That was where we found the S&W 38/44 HD we have here. We weren't looking for anything in particular and one of the locals that ran a gun store in these parts had that one for sale along with quite a few others. I believe he may be running another shop but it has been a while to see him. The 38/44 was in great shape and was $600.00 plus tax.

I use to like gunshows when you could find something you liked, you threw down your money and walked away with your treasure. I did get to meet Harry Sanford of AMT 44 Automag fame and Chuck Karwan a gun writer back in the day. Nice fellows. Years ago there use to be gun parts dealers selling parts, but no more. I was at one show in Portland Oregon and bought 3 brand new Ruger MK2 complete bolts for $20.00 each. At that show there was hundreds of tables of goodies for sale. Last show I went to there was about 15 sellers in this huge building with only new overpriced half plastic guns and way overpriced. $80.00 plus tax for a 500 round brick of 22 shells. There was only 7 buyers in the building. Me and my family were 4 of them.
