Why? Well mainly because everything there is price sky high or they think it's something that it's not, but today I did find a few things I liked. One was an old model 357/9 mm convertible. It had what looked like (to me at least) real stag grips, but the seller didn't want to remove them to check for any labeling on the inside. He was very proud of it and wanted $1100. I passed but here is a picture.

I checked the extra cylinder and it was present in the red felt bag and did match the serial numbers on the frame.

There was also a half a dozen 10/22s that I looked at for consideration and most of them were pretty reasonable, but none of the used guns came with the box. Of note was an iIlinois Bi-Centennial that looked almost new. Sticker price was $389.

I did come across another set of Rugers that on my second time around I decided needed to come home with me. I don't know who made the grips and I haven't had time to take them off yet, but they need a thorough cleaning and whoever had them before shot a lot of 38 spl. thru them. I'm guessing probably CASS.
They are nice and shiny though.

That boxed .357 convertible,, the RENE lists them at $725. The the stags are real stag,, (and of course they are not factory,) add about $200-$250. The box will add about $145. So the package was priced fairly according to the RENE price guide.
But I too would have wanted to KNOW they were real stag material,, & not faux stag before considering a purchase. If they had been real stag,, I would have tried an offer of $1000 cash.

Pardon my SA revolver ignorance, but, are those New Vaqueros? They are really pretty, nice score! Are the chrome plated, or is that high polished stainless?

What would you be looking for that would tell you if the grips are real stag?

Real stag will has a bit of porous look to it on the inside. The insides aren't polished and it's much easier to see if it's a natural material or a composite.

Polished stainless,, not plated guns.

The medallions that are silver, and raised,, with the black background with neck feathers,, is normal. The recessed eagle,, that is black,, most often didn't have neck feathers except for a short period in about 1967. Otherwise,, the black eagles do not have neck feathers.
