I hate Apple

I use an Android phone. I am hopelessly locked into the Google universe, for better or worse. My wife has an iphone and an ipad. I need to borrow her ipad for a while to test a barcode scanner with square, so I decided to log her out and log myself in. Eventually after she looked up her password and got logged out, I logged in and was immediately prompted to enter my passcode on the ipad.
Well I didn't know I even logged into it before, and if I did it was when it was brand new, so I have no idea. Of course the more times you try the worse it gets, so I am about to reset the damn thing back to factory settings.
Aggravating crap.

Apple went down hill when they switched to the intel processor... and also hired a bunch of folks from Bill Gates.... with that said, when ever I sit in front of a 'winders' computer I am totally lost... still trying to figure out what that second button on a mouse is for... but then for the last 10 years I've never had a mouse.... been stuck with Apple for good or bad since 1987 if you can imagine it....

LOL. In the programming world the Apple people used to tout the superiority of the Motorola processor. Wrote code for both, even wrote a Motorola emulator. Both wound up doing the same things. It was hilarious when Apple had to transition to the Intel processor.

I developed a dislike for Apple when they introduced the Mac with no programming languages available commercially. I further dislike Mac for their anti-support and anti-repair attitudes.

For the record, I've used an iPad at work for the past fifteen years or so. First two places we had a custom app that ran by itself and everything was great. Now I have a web based app that doesn't work right with Safari. Works fine with Chrome, Opera, and Firefox on my PC but not Safari.

My wife gave me an Apple laptop she wasn’t using anymore.

They have a few advantages. I like how they have integrated all the devices. So for example I can answer a text message straight from the laptop.

Or if I’m using my iPad and the phone is across the room, I can answer a phone call on the iPad.


And Apple doesn’t seem to have malware and virus issues that plague the PC world.

People make way too big a deal over the OS. I was always a DOS dinosaur. But, windows works Then again, I currently have Windows, Android and Apple devices. It's just a matter of learning how to use them. None really seems any easier or better than the others.

Using Android with one touch on my 2 home screens I can dial my GF, son, the bank, police, ADT, AAA (or anyone in my contacts folder I can put on my home screen), every app I use, open links to anywhere I want, view stored files all without touching the screen more than once or at worst two to open a folder. No hunting around.

I don't "get" the Apple paradigm.

Since I retired I’ve been away from PC’s, laptops, and hardened Motorola cellphones for twelve years now. I use nothing but Apple devices…iPhones and iPads, for everything now. Even remote viewing the chartplotter on my boat. I’ve been very happy and I’ve had no problems whatsoever. I’ve not tried a Mac device but I do have friends who are diehard users and they’ve not had complaints either.

I liked DOS because I'm a keyboard guy. I had a task switching version of DOS at the end so I could have multiple programs open. I modified Command.com to fit my needs and had a number of TSRs to do things for me.

I never got into Linux.

Yep you are right about that. It is very well integrated. Also very secure. That's what is causing me aggravation right now.

I hear your frustrations with the passcodes. Been there done that. The laptop I mentioned was from her work. They told her to just keep it. But I didn’t use it for a few months and forgot the password. She had to take it back to work and have them reset it. What a joke.

Now my daughter wants my computer. (It’s a nice and fast gaming computer.) Instead of me buying a new one right now, I think I’ll use this Apple laptop full time.

Pretty much when you don't remember your passcode, all you can do is reset it, which I have done. All good now.
Yep I know I can put square on android. I already have.
But, this is for another company that already uses an iPad and I am trying to duplicate it.

Not a programmer nor have I ever played one on tv or at home. Can't really say I need to know the hows or whys, I just need a device that works for me. I was able to make and register an SBR online, dealing with ATF. Everything was run through an iPhone or iPad depending on where I was sitting at the time. It's not a limiting system.

Youre having a hard time accessing someone else's device and you blame a company for being to difficult to "hack" into… my iPhone was stolen 9 months ago, that is what I call a feature now. The ass clowns contacted me asking for passwords so they could wipe it clean before they "sold it on the dark web", for my protection of course. When .gov sued for Apple to divulge the keys and were told to pound sand, I was happy.

What burns my ass (not really) is my Craftsman battery won't fit Milwaukee or Dewalt tools, Makita is a no go as well.

All my family, brother, his wife, his daughters, my wife, my daughters, all use iPhones. I am an Android man and forever will be. My one experience with an Apple product was a new desktop computer. I had been using PC's since they came out, but my brother convinced me that Apple was great. Bought one, about 2.5x more than a comparable PC, but what the heck, I gave it a try. My first issue was there was what was called, I believe, "parallel" which allowed you to use some programs that were PC based. I really only wanted my flight simulator. Would not work. So, bought a MAC compatible version. After 13 hours or so with support, would not work. So went on to other things. When I scan a photo/document into a PC, it offers a choice of where you want it to go after you have scanned it. So, put a photo into my scanner, scanned it, and it showed it as being scanned and saved, but no indication as to where. I had a friend, who was very good with MAC's come over and try to find it. No luck. Unfortunately, the photo was borrowed and could not be had again. The last straw, I started getting the little "spiral of death" as I call it, whenever I used my computer. Took it in, was told the hard drive was crashing. Was able to get my data off and onto the new, $650+$150 to transfer the data, hard drive. By the way, this was exactly 3 days after my warranty expired. Sold it for about a quarter of what I paid for it, went and bought a Dell, and have been happy and trouble free for the last 5 years.

For phones I like iPhone. Less malware risk. Very reliable. Same for iPad. Easy backup on a computer. For desktop and laptop I tried Mac but never liked it. Applications that are essential for me are windows only. Yes there are emulators but never liked Mac anyway. For people that don’t remember passwords there are password managers, I like Roboform.

These are the old ones with the 3” stick on top. I have a couple of the rarely used tools that they work in still not wasted.
A good year ago I joined the Milwaukee sphere of influence. They are very easy to find here.
Went back home to help mom with some things, decided to get and leave a couple tools with her. She lives in a Dewalt county, for want of a better term. I haul my stuff still, and she uses old less useful tools.

It's not someone else's data, it's my own data. I don't remember the passcode that I apparently set up for this iPad, so instead of being able to contact me via some other method, basically I have to reformat the machine.

As far as your phone is concerned, I hope you told them where to stick it...

That's one of the reasons that I keep no sensitive information on my phone. Get my phone and you might get my free guac at Chipotle.
