I'm a metal, mostly steel, hammer fired type of guy, not much into lasers, lights or other attachments.
I don't mind functional mods on some guns as long as they make some sense.
What do some of you guys prefer?

It's not really a fair question. I like my different pistols for different reasons. I wouldn't want to have to choose any of the above as my "preferred" choice.

I agree with you to a point, I own different pistols for different reasons but what do you think of when someone mentions "semi-auto pistol"?

Several things for me.

1. I wonder high, medium or low quality gun.
2. Caliber.
3. Intended use.

My answer to the poll is "none of the above".

.45ACP. Metal. Mit das hammer...

And I do NOT need "Operator," Professional," "Xtreme Ninja" or whatever stamped on the slide... no extra serrations, rails etc etc etc

I've been pondering a Crimson Trace laser sight lately tho...

Hello Cheese,

Well, I love the looks and feel of the ol' 1911. But if I had to make a living totin' a gun around all day long, then I'd prefer something along the lines of a SR9c mated to a set of those Xs sights. I believe that's where these new polymer guns prove superior_ they are so much lighter! Heck, I voted "Total Ninja." Oh Oh, now I can hear my pal Rev hammerin' on the gallows he's building for me.

I vote metal, mostly stock. That is the way of the 1911 crowd. But, I have a Springfield XD-40 that finds its way into my range bag more times than not.

While "polys" definately have a purpose and place in my collection, I'm a stock/steel/hammer guy in my heart of hearts (there's just something about the look and feel of a stainless steel 1911 )

Although I'm not the oldest guy on this forum by any stretch, I do recall my dad and his friends bemoaning "aluminum guns" and how they would never be as reliable as steel framed guns.
They had a point, some of the early alloy framed guns had issues and teething problems.
Plastic has been a somewhat slower process, Glock and to a lesser extent H&K jumped in with both feet but most other manufacturers sat back and watched.
I know that polymers are more cost effective to make and I would think that turnaround time would be reduced also, the gun maker would see higher profits per unit even at a lower retail price.

Anthony, If I was a CCW guy, I would probably consider a plastic striker fired gun as it would be lighther and slimmer. My SR9 has proven to me that a striker gun can be very reliable.

...but I think of something made of pounded steel, fired with a hammer and shot by someone who loves those things.

I don't own any 1911's although I'm not opposed to the idea. I have a Ruger P-series, a XD-40 & a Kel Tec P11. At this point I like all platforms I guess. I usually carry the XD.

The only modification on my pistols is Meprolight tritium sights. I have them on the Ruger & the XD. Even without being in the dark they are a huge improvement over the stock sights the XD came with. When I first found out about the tritium sights I liked the idea because I had a situation several years ago where I was trying to shoot a water moccasin in half light. He made it into the underbrush. Being able to see my sights would have helped a lot.

I must have missed the part that says Yes Please, all of the above. I know, I'm a total gun whore. Sorry mods, sometimes you just have to call it like they are.

I voted "Metal, some functional mods or stock", but own some of each.

I'm getting ready to put a picture together of a couple of my Ruger rimfires: One is a Bisley Single Six, in all it's 100% stock glory, blued steel and (some kind of) wood grips. The other is a MkIII Hunter with a 6" fluted barrel, stainless, Volquartsen trick parts, and a Millett SP-2 red dot scope. Sorta like opposite ends of the irony spectrum. I'd throw a plastic .22 in too, but I don't own one. Maybe my LCP?

'Course I have a Marlin .30/30 and a AR-15, too. Hey, "I Like Guns."

Pistol on right is my Para Ordnance P-16. Custom work was by a guy in Va. Tommy Abernathy. This was done back before you could get custom features on factory guns. It is one sweet shooting gun.

Not enough choices!
I prefer a stock hammer gun, metal or plastic and without allot of junk hanging on it. As long as it's a accurate shooter and functions like it should...............I'm a happy camper.
