GP100-357 question

Just purchased a new GP100-357, does shooting 38spl do any harm to the gun or should i just stay with running 357 ammo
I thought i read 38spl will cause to much lead build up.

38 spl does no harm, You get some carbon in the cylinder so just clean it after shooting 38s.

I have only shot 38 in mine. When I clean it I run a brass brush through each hole one or two strokes. Never have had a buildup. I shoot cast bullets.

No problem at all shooting .38 special. It’s possible over time you’ll get some build up that makes rechambering .357s difficult but this is easily cleaned if it happens at all.

I shoot more 38s through my GP100s and other 357s than I do 357. I actually have a dedicated GP100 for 357 (used specifically for hunting).

Just clean your chambers regularly and there will be no issues with rings forming.

Just keep in mind that on this or any other gun forum a good 50% of what you read is pure BS.

As long as you clean your gun once in a while firing .38's in it will create absolutely, positively no damage whatsoever.

And cleaning it with WD-40 won't, either...

I'm gload to hear other forum members shoot a lot of .38 special in their .357 magnum revolvers also. That's about all I ever shoot in my 5 inch bbl GP100 and always clean the cylinder after each shooting and no build up at all.

Shoot .38 Special all you want in your GP100 it's 100% safe and designed for it. Ruger rates it for .38 Spl, P, and .357 Mag. No damage, less wear recoil, and great for practice.

Lead buildup can happen with any lead bullet loads more noticeable in the cylinder with lighter .38s, but it's not a big deal just clean the chambers and bore after sessions like normal. Most owners mix both without issues.
