My 30 Carbine. My First Ruger Revolver. 20 Years ago I went to the Boise Gun Show there at the fairgrounds. I was looking for a Stainless 357 Blackhawk, but found this instead. I'm sure I paid too much for it, no box or paperwork. But at the time I had never heard of 30 Carbine, so I figured, what the heck, must not be that common. I didn't even notice the canted front sight until later. Oh well. This gun got traded back and forth between my dad and I ever since, a few years with him and a few with me. It's finally ended up at my house...

I did shoot a lot of the black and yellow boxed UMC ammunition through it. I never thought it was particularly accurate, but a couple years ago at Contender's House for the East Coast Gathering, Ty shot it and thought it was just fine.

I've been reloading for a while, but could never get the hang of reloading for the tapered case. The headspacing without the rim made it difficult for some reason.

BUT, I digress. This fine Ruger is being shipped off tomorrow to David Clements for a caliber conversion and complete makeover. FINALLY!!! I have just always wanted a custom revolver. The history this gun as between my dad and I makes it the perfect choice, it's probably the most family heirloom firearm I have really. We'll go shooting when I get it back.

the gun in question...The new revolver? 45 Colt, Octagonal barrel, bisley frame, hard chrome finish, better sights, better trigger etc...

Mine shoots very well with a 120 grain boolit over 2400. Finicky to load for but worth it when it all comes together. Good luck on your conversion.

I remember that gun!
It shot fine for me,,, but I do understand the frustrations of reloading 30 Carbine.
It'll take a while to get the work done,,, be PATIENT,,, as it can take 1-2 years. The good guys all have a backlog.
Looking forward to seeing it done!

Many are happy shooting 32-20 as is out of the gun but if changes need to be made I would look into Gary Reeder's 300GNR conversion.
It could fix all the issues and stay cosmetically in line with the gun you and your dad shared.

Thank you all for the suggestions, but I've also wanted a Clements Custom Gun for the past decade. I read about a Single Six he customized in the magazine "Gun's of the Old West." So I know a Freedom Arms revolver locks up night and tight, and other gunsmiths would do a good job also, but just not for me.

I just dropped it off at the UPS counter. Ugh...overnight air, the cheapest option was $98. But the woman at the counter was very friendly and we talked guns. She was curious who Clements is etc. Not in a questioning way for work ya know, just friendly talk. Texas is good like that.

Congrats. I have a .32 H&R Single Six Clements worked their magic on years ago. Definitely my favorite revolver.
