Hi all, I probably know this isn't the right forum for asking about a .22 rimfire single sixs. BUT it just seems like the better place!
My question is how difficult is it to totally strip down an Old Model single six?

Now granted I'm quite adept at tearing down firearms. Ripped apart a number of MKIs & IIs just never have got all the guts out of the early SS models.

Got an old shooter ( 1972) that is in need of some reblueing No it isn't much for the collectors so that is why I want to refinish it

......now my other OM's I wouldn't think of touching even though they have some wear spots.
Just looking for any pit falls in the dis-assembly or reassembly from those that may know
Thanks

Actually, an OM isn't very hard to strip down. The only area that's "tricky" is the removal of the firing pin retention pin. It's polished in place and on an angle. Reinstalliation properly can be a bear.

After messing with New Models, Old Models and SAA's are a breeze to disassemble and reassemble. Just take your time and use a set of properly fitting screwdrivers.

Hi Flategate Sorry but what is the "RTFM" ? is that the owners manual?
Thanks

JWFilips,

The disassembly of the Old Models is a simple thing. They are straight forward and UN-complicated. Nothing tricky about them.

RTFM stands for: Read The Flippin Manual. There have been so many "how to" questions asked that sometimes it's the easiest way to answer them; just go read the manual, the answer to all your questions is there.

Sorry Guys
No need to apologize for something you probably haven't even seen. There are no stupid questions but there are stupid answers.
Here ya go.

there is no real reason to remove the firing pin from the frame, we have reblued HUNDREDS over the years ,never took one out that was NOT "broken".............no reason to take the rear sight apart as it is basically an aluminum alloy ( unless you have the OLD steel Micro ones), then if it NEEDS it, easily enough to disassemble but many time can just touch it up with a bit of cold blue) depends on how bad they are...........

Just make sure you "lock" the mainspring back, a pin or nail through the mainspring strut hole, when its cocked, takes all the pressure off...no set sequence of the screw removal of the frame, just make sure you use a screw driver that FITS, not too small or one of them Sears tapered ones, use a hollow ground, straight shaft type, not a stubby one in a "handle" as the handles fat end will scrape, rub against the sides of the trigger guard, ruin a good job, and look like crap. I usually save the front, small screw for last keeps things "in place".............as Joe said its quite simple and remember how you took it apart and reverse the process...
good luck Now
new models' ?? they are a pain.........
