As a child in the 1960's, I remember my dad coming home from fishing, and my mom would gut and clean the fish, many of which were full of eggs (row).
She would season the row, roll it in corn meal and deep fry it.
It was absolutely delicious! I haven't had fried fish row since at least 1967, and have never found a restaurant that serves it.

Anyone here ever had fried row?

I remember that during the spring the shad would be running and people in this area would catch the shad and also fry the roe with eggs as part of the meal. I tried it once as a kid and vowed never again. YUCK!

I had almost forgot about the fried fish roe (eggs) ... Louisiana cajuns didn't waste much .
Seems like Large Mouth Bass , Catfish and Sac-A-Lait ( I think these are called White Crappie) carried a large enough roe sack to fry and eat ... don't forget to prick the sack so the roe didn't pop / explode while frying them .
Cajuns eat just about anything they can ... and fried fish roe was not wasted by us but eaten and enjoyed .
Thanks for the Memory !

Had it.

Mom was saying to dad, you're not eating that are you? Pointing at the yellow sack & Dad says sure, it's good. Well, If you like it, I want some too, I told dad.

I was 5 or 6 at the time, & thus the beginning to my adventurous eater status. Had some row as late as this year.

Arizona, your experience is the same as mine. I’m guessing somewhere around 1970 was the last time I ate any. Can’t say I’ve had any desire since that time.

Short answer is a simple why? If I’m honest I don’t care for fish that much. I will happily drive 7 hours catch limits of walleye and toss them right back, crappie and catfish too. I ate enough fish by the time I was 10 to pretty much carry me through the rest of my life. It’s good food, I just rarely want it if that makes sense.

Ah, Murrells inlet. Ate someplace there with my parents in the 60's, yeah, the 60's.

Fast forward 30 years & wife & I rode the Harley along with friends to MB. The building that had the buffet looks like Crab Daddy's now. Hell of a meal.

Have to check with a buddy of mine, that moved to the Inlet a couple years ago, if they still have them.
