Anyone Fly fish salt?

I do a lot of fishing 99% of it in salt. I came into some fly fishing tackle thats geared towards salt. Mainly a Penn International 2.5 fly reel and a couple of 8 to 9 foot fly rods. I never wet a fly line and the only ‘experience’ I’ve had was trying to cast a relatives classic bamboo fly rod on the front lawn when I was about 10-12 years old.
Target inshore species like bluefish, weakfish, false albacore and striped bass. Bass grow big up here so I’ll try to stick to targeting schoolie sized fish 10lbs or so.
Anyone have experience and would like to offer advice for a newbie or even point me in the direction of good sites on the subject, it would be appreciated. Thanks

One of my favorite fishing memories was catching baby blue fish in the Long Island Sound 40 years ago with my cousins. Using freshwater fishing poles. It would be great fun with a flyrod.

My Striper fishing was all done with larger surf poles or boat rods. I’ve seen people fly fishing with big tackle you describe. It didn’t look fun or productive. I remember they had a basket around their waste to hold the line.

Catching Bones "The Ghost of The Flats" on light tackle 4# spinning or fly is fantastic.
While working in Freeport Bahamas, yea I know a tough job, wife and I went bone fishing with the locals that worked at the hotel we were staying in.
Just outstanding fishing in the shallow back waters that are as clear as your bath water. One of the guys told me if the Bones were as big as Porpoise maybe I could see them. :)
I have fly fished streams and lakes all over the country since 1982. Trying to fly fish out of a boat with wind and people in the boat NO thanks.

I'm hoping it's as fun, always fun to find new angles on doing stuff, we'll see. . Looking forward to trying it after all these years. Looking at all the stuff I need online to get in the game and it's adding up but catch some nice fish and the pain of spending will disappear. A stripping basket is on the list of things to get.

Yeah fishing sure is good up here especially this time of year. The water temp is dropping and the days getting shorter and fish go on the feed big time fattening up for the migration south. I've fished bass just about every way imaginable. Trolling, surf casting, jigging, live bait( bunker, eels). Here's a pic of my biggest to date. A 43lb cow caught on a parachute jig.

Here's a couple pics I took of the rod/reel to send to a couple friends/family. Penn Internationals are top tier reels I hope their fly reels are. I read good things about them but no experience with their fly stuff. It's stout and heavy and should handle large fish should one pick up a lure.
If I end up liking fly fishing itll come with us when we move to Florida in about a year. I'll target inshore redfish, snook and gator trout. If not I'll pass it on.

Yes, Penn does make nice stuff. What weight rod do you have??? Probably want an 8-10 weight because of the wind. I fish fresh and have 5-7 weight rods.

2 rods both 7/8. Not top tier rods but I'm not a top tier fly fisherman, I'm a bottom runger. I'll start with the 7/8's and learn the game first and if I decide to keep at fly's I will upgrade to quality, stouter rods. Baby steps.
Man I miss catching reds, on med spinning a nice one feels like you hooked a submarine.
We’re heading down to Florida this coming Monday, hopefully we’ll get on the water and see what we can do.

The heavier weight rods allow you to use larger lines and flies and drive into the wind. The 8-weight will probably work under good conditions. Try what you have and if you really like flyin get more stuff later. Kind of like Rugers ONE is never enough.:-)

I was a little confused as I first didn't know what "fish salt" was, and then had no idea how one makes it 'fly'.
