Flat gate .357?

Howdy fellas! I've tricked out and slicked up a few 3 screws in the last few years, but I'd like to try something and wanted some input...

Is there any reason I CAN'T (shouldn't might be addressed later) make my rounded, original loading gate into a flat gate like the original single sixes. I can't think of any pressure issues, but thought I'd see if there was something I was missing. I'm planning on milling it down flat and then machining in the "nail nick" - but proportionally sized for the .357.

If I was to do that I would leave a little bigger tapered edge that didn't need a fingernail to get it open. You can always mill it more flat if you don't like it.

Actually I don't use my finger nail at all. A little pressure with my thumb and it opens right up. I have polished the contact area of the gate and spring and made sure of no sharp corners or burrs while holding a match on the face of the two pieces.
