Longmire's 1911 can fire with the hammer down on the firing pin stop, rather than cocked. That, and he supposedly fired a round into the ceiling , to stop an argument. That was pretty weak. And his hammer was down of the FPS when they showed it.

Great show, and a really good "gun guy" show. I forget the details but remember one episode where it was relevant to an investigation that the Model 70 is available in .375 H&H, and Longmire knew that, presumably because he's a generally informed gun guy.

Then there was the time where his daughter had to learn in a hurry that not all centre-fire lever actions have a loading gate.

It's nice to see little details like that when other shows have gross errors like talking about safeties on Glocks and double action revolvers.

Ah, yes, the Henry that Nighthorse gave her. I'm yelling at the TV, "it's a Henry".

We watched Longmire and thought it was pretty good and Justified which we thought was much better.

We watched all of Longmire and enjoyed it. Plus it made me buy a set of stag grips for a couple of my 1911’s. The lead actor was a real outdoorsy type, I read that he had worked on oil rigs in the ocean.

Longmire was a great show despite Vic's duck lips and voice that could break glass. It started slowly, for me, but once I got into it I watched it thru two times.

Someone mentioned "Territory". That single season was very good! I really looked forward to season 2, but it was cancelled for lack of viewership and the cost of production in remote northern Australia. The landscape was unique and the Aboriginal actors playing in it just added to the overall feel of the show.

The 6.8 IMDB rating surprises me.

Longmire cabin filming was in Valles Caldera National Preserve (formerly Valles Grande), in the Jemez Mountains about an hour northwest of our home in Placitas. I have toured out-of-state visiting family to the cabin a number of times. The National Park Service has not put as much money into preservation of the property as the filming studio, so it is looking a little run down. When the sheriff was on the porch looking out, there is a cinder cone close to center and just left of the base are the NPS facilities/former ranch facilities, which are digitally edited out in the series. I had a Korean War vet uncle from the thumb of Michigan who was a die hard fan of the series. One of the best things I ever did for him was to get him there.

1911. Though let's face it, no self respecting lawman would carry a 1911 condition 2. What I like are the times he cocks the hammer two or three times during a single event. And you never see him put it back in condition 2 or condition 1 before he holsters it. But then if you get your firearms training from Hollywood you deserve what ever befalls you.

started reading the 1st Longmire book again today.... of course Vic is entirely different in the book... little short woman with short dark hair.... the interesting part is he goes to the dancing pony bar and his buddy Henry is trying to get the lights over the pool table back on and has to pull boards off the wall to find the fuse box.... which has the old screw in fuses and they are worried about the 220volts.... the fuses they are unscrewing and checking are 110/120 but I guess if it's the old boxes I'm used to but there is 220/240 actually in there.....

Oh, and Thomas Magnum carried a 1911 too.
I think when I get my staring roll I'll carry an Sig P226 in Single Action Only with the hammer cocked.... just a tad closer to modern... but still old school by today's standards...

I went to Buffalo, Wyo. a few years back for the annual Longmire Days festival, held in mid-July. That was a fun time. The author of the book, Craig Johnson was there, the Longmire show cast-members attended. Robert Taylor seemed to enjoy it as much as the fans. Not sure if they still have it, since the show is no longer running.

Still trying to figure to the ballistics in this first book... initially the investigating officer says it looks like the dead person was shot in the back with a 3-0-6 and then after the body is moved to the lab they start discussing the strange bullet that was used fired out of a rifled shot gun possibly teflon coated? I'm probably going to have to pay better attention as I read....

In the TV show as I remember it it as a season or two before Longmire got interested in other women, still getting over losing his wife. In the book he's right away hot for this woman he meets at Henry's bar and then the pancake supper.
