So I have a SP101 that when you run it double action the hammer doesn't always catch. The cylinder spins when you pull the trigger but just doesn't always engage the hammer.
If you run it single action works fine.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

I agree with Mobucks comments. Working in SA mode and not DA mode makes me wonder if any modifications were made might be affecting the hammer dog. If it isn't engaging in DA, that would not be noticed in SA mode because you are physically pulling back on the hammer and not relying on the internals to engage it and force the hammer back.

Yes I bought it new, and packed it away.
I haven't even removed the trigger group yet so no trigger job or spring kits.

I hate the thought of calling Ruger after my last fiasco with them.

I finally took it apart and cleaned and deburred everything didn't see anything that might cause the issue. Did NOT install the Wolf springs I had purchased yet. Seems to be fine now. Need to get it out to a range and test it.

Here we are again, making excuses for Ruger.
I hope your revolver is not one that just barely operates, and the slightest little glitch causes it to be inoperable.
Now... shoot it and shoot it, and shoot it, to make sure it can be trusted always.
