Do not EVER deal with Bud's Guns!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My biggest fear was that they would have my trade in gun and my balance due paid in full and THEN tell me they were sold out of my Uberti High Wall. Well that's what just happened!!!!

During my way to long a wait for my FedEx shipping label I repeatedly ask three different times if they had put aside my rifle and they said yes.

So after getting confirmation my revolver arrived and was credited and my electronic check had gone thru....I get a call this morning that they had no rifle to ship!!!!!!

So my revolver is on the way back and I hope in same condition it was when I sent it plus a refund.

They won't get anymore of my business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had thought of getting the 45-90 rifle that was 100 bucks more but I'd have to invest in buying brass for that$$$. Plus they would only give me 60 bucks of the price of that gun...not the full 100!

I bought a lever action 454 Casull from them. About 6 months after I bought it, the FFL I had it shipped to called me and asked me to bring it to his shop so he could take a rubbing of the serial numbers.
Buds had handled the transaction wrong. I had to fill out a new 4473, had to do another NICS on the same gun I had already done it on, then I had to sign the paper the serial number rub was on to verify that it was indeed the right serial number and submit a picture of the gun.
In all my time being a licensed FFL and lots of independent transactions I had never heard of such a thing.

Just curious here. If you trade in a used gun, how do they value it since they can't see the gun in person? And, once they get the gun, can they tell you it's not worth what they quoted you and lower the trade in price of it?

I’ve bought several guns from them over the past several years, with nary a problem. In fact, they’ve been pretty easy to order from and their prices are usually good. I pay with a credit card, and haven’t tried trading guns with them. I can see how doing a trade with them would complicate matters considerably and understand your frustration. Sorry you had trouble.

If at all possible, always try to deal with an LGS.. Less hassles than trying to deal with a place on the internet that is considered Ebay version 2.0

Just curious here. If you trade in a used gun, how do they value it since they can't see the gun in person? And, once they get the gun, can they tell you it's not worth what they quoted you and lower the trade in price of it?

I sent several pictures of the gun to Gurney plus a well detailed description and they inspect your gun when you send it end before they confirm a deal done.

I have to put my two cents in after reading all the other's comments. I've been buying from Bud's bun Shop for the past three years now and have to say that they have been both courteous and honest with me in all their dealings since my first purchase. I have purchased many firearms and supplies from them and have recommended Buds to at least four of my friends who have also had first class treatment from them. Furthermore my local FFL guy (not a brick and mortar store) likes and also recommends Buds. To each his own I guess.

I am at a loss understanding why anyone would trade a gun to a gun shop? Lets say you trade them a model gun that is still in current production. Even before you discuss things you have to know he can buy the same gun NIB for less than 30% off retail.
How would they give you a great price and still be able to sell that used gun a lot cheaper than a new one? They would have to sell the used one for almost as much as the new one. How many people are going to pay almost full pop for a used gun when they can buy new in box for just a few bucks more. I would never consider taking a gun to the gun shop. Now I HAVE taken some for them to sell on commission.
I suppose a widow or non gun type executor of a estate might.
But then again a lot of us will buy a new car and trade in the old one to save the hassle of trying to sell it ourselves. It`s just that I suspect that a gun you might be able to sell for say $700 privately a dealer may give $450!

I snagged a Cimarron Pistolero from Buds for a smokin good deal. $420 shipped insured and a lifetime warranty, $20 for the FFL., $440 otd.

I use Buds as a point of reference, I may go $50 over at the LGS. But not $100 or even more.

The local gun shops around here are hard to cut a deal with on price of a gun.
They wouldn't have that type rifle in stock and that particular model was a new type offering from Uberti being the squared off shotgun type butt stock and the standard thick wall round barrel.
From what I read that type stock can be more forgiving to your shoulder with the .45-70.

Including my trade I could step in to a nice High Wall rifle for less than $ 200.00 bucks which is why I went with the trade deal BUT due to a certain employee not following up on my request to verify the rifle was tagged I ended up stepping into a pile of doo.

After some thought and talking with the manager I will let my funds stay on the account and have been place on Reserve Order for the next one to come in plus another discount. I can demand a full refund at any time.
I will eventually have one but it will take a bit longer than I had planned.

I guess yesterday,Friday the 27th was my delayed Friday the 13th because with all of this going on the clothes dryer went down and had to scramble to fix that.

I've been to that store a couple times while out there on vacation and you don't get Bud's internet prices on the guns in the store. They are priced up like a Cabela's or other typical high end shops. Yes the Knife Works had even a wider selection and better prices.

Reading through for first hand experiences, I'll add mine.

One lever-action bought via phone from Bud's. All but one person I talked with were courteous, calm, and knowledgeable by phone. One was a total azzhat and it came across in the first exchange. He actually challenged me (one of us is the customer) when I asked to speak to someone who could handle the rifle and read me the serial number (from the rifle, not the box).

In the end, the deal was smooth until I examined the rifle upon delivery. It had the wrong serial number (wrong rifle) and it had been mis-handled with a noticeable scratchdent in the wood (NIB gun). So I sent it back and canceled the deal. Took 8 biz days to get my CC credited.

I understand the constraints of an internet/phone sales business, but if a biz isn't staffed & prepared to spend time on the phone with a customer, then a change in the business plan is a'comin. Planned or otherwise. Personally I won't go back to Bud's. YMMV.

I went to Buds and SMKW that last time I was up in Sevierville. They had AR rifles pretty darn cheap, but I didn't get one. I did get a screaming deal on a Kershaw knife at SMKW though. And the Lodge outlet had some good deals, too.

I've dealt with Buds 4 times, each time buying a new firearm. Never had any problems with them but was surprised when I recently ordered an AR from them. The UPS tracking started in Plymouth MN. Package came from Bill Hicks and Co.. Buds never saw or handled this firearm. Maybe this is common but I never noticed it before.

I've never bought from them and won't but that sounds accurate to me from what I've heard. I support my local shop. Their prices are competitive, they appreciate my business and know who I am when I walk in the door. I don't nickel & dime them and they don't balk at doing transfers.

I do this all the time. I've traded in more guns at gun shops than I have sold. Yes, I know I'm paying for the convenience of walking in with one gun and walking out with another but I've never felt like I got screwed. I would usually rather do that than deal with trying to sell it. In some cases, I've traded in guns for more than what I paid for them or I've traded for used guns that were worth more than I paid for what I was trading for them. I once bought a Ruger MKII Competition model for $200 and later traded it to a shop for $350 worth of reloading supplies. Came in handy during lean times. Just last year I got $200 worth of trade equity on a Walther P22 I paid $240 for. Several years ago I traded an old Redhawk for a 6½" S&W .38-44HD, that I then traded for a brand new 629MG tuned by Bob Munden. A few years ago I traded a Ruger 50th anniversary .357 Blackhawk that had been shot a good bit for a CZ 452FS. I paid $500 for the Ruger and the CZ's go for $460 right now. I paid $750 for a Kimber 1911, shot the piss out of it for 8yrs, including about 20,000rds with a .22LR conversion and then traded it for another 1911 priced at $550. So never assume that folks trading at the gun shop are getting "screwed".

Bud's has warehouses scattered around and the sales folks never see or examine what you get.
That's why they tell you to examine the gun before purchase and if not to your liking refuse to accept and have it returned for another one or refund.
Like I said this was the first time an issue came up,in all my dealings with them, that my gun to purchase slipped away.

Gun quality with some brands is a crap shoot whether you buy on line or local as I have found some guns make it inside the local show case with visible issues.

If I was running a gun store and if a slow day,I'd have a counter worker, just do a visual and function look at the guns on display and send any flawed ones back to the distributor or manufacture.
