Basically making an Alaskan out of mine. Saw this one and started thinking (DANGER/WARNING) Any thoughts?

Just buy an Alaskan or see if somebody will make a trade with you.
But it's your gun to do with what you like.

Pretty easy to cut a Super barrel and relocate the front sight. Call around, you might be surprised at the actual expense...

Redhawk will be more labor intensive than a Super due to needing to clock the barrel if you're removing it for machining. If you're just chopping and recrowning, I don't see any major risk but I would figure the front sight (milled slot? pinned? D&T'd) before I cut anything.

Bowen offers a front sight base for exactly this job.

Designed for shortened standard Ruger Redhawk barrels,

They marked everything as "out of stock" and are only taking phone orders at the moment.

Thanks for all the great advice. I don't think I could sell or trade one of my two Redhawks, they are more like reliable old friends. I wanted a stainless Ruger 44 spl but I guess they have been discontinued.
