Yeah.....it was the Breakaway song after vertrep on the Connie.....We did but I hate that song.
Maybe.....depending on the era......PBRs I believe were reclassed mid 70's....where's @Killer Bee? he splashed around these things.......
So did I. Two tours. CTF 116.1 & CTF 116 In country Jan '68-'69 and again mid '69 - '70.

When I was TAD with EODMU3 the "tenured" SBU guys had crazy stories. Always amazed me to listen to them.
Friend I lost touch with, Sonny Pruitt, was there as well. Talked about Game Warden some. Great guy. Hope he's well.
Where do I know that name from?
Sonny Pruit was the name of the character that Claude Akins played on the TV show "Movin' On" in the mid 1970's.

People in Michigan call the thing between the front seats a council. They say it so wrong they sometimes spell it like I did. Explain that.
Sonny was before our time Chief. Well, maybe a "little" bit of yours. I think he retired late 70's.

I started off with 5 years of sea duty and far as I recall, no one called anything a ship except for calling out surface contacts or boarding for a pin, everything was a boat. let's get back to the boat, let's eat on the boat tonight before we go out, what boat are you on, etc.
old as I feel, I'm a little young for the OG PBRs. we had a much more fortunate duty than Riverine crews of that era so I salute them
I deployed in a 34' dauntless patrol boat squadron. I do believe the NECC has reorg'd a few times since but I was in a MIUWU and converted IBU in NCW - we called it a MIUWBU but it's all just alphabet soup
boat two nine took the undersea part a little too seriously, gimball failure and no one injured
one of my coxswains was from SWCC, he had mad skills!
he also mixed this video, some of my pictures and clips are in there.. and I'm in a couple too ;)
I couldn't recall what exactly you did, there were so many different things for expeditionary type duty. Still cool though.

Pew pew is relatively new amongst the cute terms. It’s supposed to describe the sound med by boys as they played with their toy pistols. It seems to have caught on within the tactical community.

My father, a WW II tin can sailor who served aboard DD 398 USS Ellet from 1942 'till war's end, explained to me how sailors distinguished boats from ships: boats were launched sideways, and ships were launched straightforward (or backwards).
Reminds me of the Smothers Brothers song/skit: Crabs Walk Sideways and Lobsters Walk Straight.

I got it for Christmas and I didn't try to rationalize it.
Gun is western pijin for the chinese term for hand cannon (gonne); the original cannon, before theu put shoulder poles or wheels on them., and dates back roundabout a thousand years, it aint new or slang.
Never said it was new but it is less descriptive.

I never put that together back when I was in communication with him (Sonny). Watched that show as a kid but remember Akins more from BJ and The Bear. CBs and trucks were the craze back then.

Dang we never had American beer on Steel Beach Picnics.........It was always Tiger Beer.
Ex-Wife burned most of my stuff......had a pic of us Ordies sitting in a kiddie pool wearing our cranials w/dark lenses holding Tigers and grilled chicken up, in the IO '87....we had just set a record for sorties....we were given two cans......however you could challenge others....if you shot gunned it faster you got his other full unopened beer, and so on and so on......some of us actually got a decent buzz.

I was aboard the old Kitty Hawk doing the 87 world cruise. While we lingered around the IO, we anchored off Diego Garcia for a couple of days. It was there that the 45 days caught up with us and steel beach were declared. I was a Chief back then and while everybody else got their beer ration card punched (twice at the same time both opened), the Chiefs got to enjoy our Schlitz beer in the mess. I gave the guy my card, he gave it back and handed me a beer from the yugo can full of ice. Basically we could drink all we wanted. I drank my fill and pirated some of it to take to the guys in the power plant shop. I was popular with them for about two whole days. The next day we checked out some deep sea fishing rigs and caught a few White Sea bass. Good eats. Then departed to sit off the coast of Somalia for a time. I bet old Ordyman replaced us or we him.
