Yeah the "Cowboy" guns have started to grow on me, don't have any,,, oh this may be a bad thing,,,, :? Good looking gun by the way,,, oh this is getting worse,,,:shock:
but for hunting anything bigger than a Florida deer I would use a .41 or a .44 magnum.
Not sure how big a Florida deer is but I always thought my 44 SRH was WAY too big to use on our Whitetail,,,,, HEY my Colt is a "Whitetailer" we were thinking the same thing!!
I had read where one of the Wesson family had developed the 357 Mag back in the 30's and the original marketing was embossed with his great success of using the round for hunting. But shot placement wins the game,,, I have seen some of these Hillbillys around here pump 5 - 12 ga. slugs in a deer's a$s and then spend the day chasing to poor animal. The first 3 deer I shot with my SRH were vital area shots and it was nothing but carnage inside them so I got more confidence with the gun by working to get a reliable 100 yard group then started shooting them in the head like I was told to do by the Elder men (Dad and Uncles) when I was growing up.
I had always wanted to build a "bench" 357 but never did and the blues were calling this time, stainless getting old on me.
I saw this Colt at a gun show last month and walked away for $950, that spured me to buy the Ruger but for the shooting I like to do the 6" barrel was bugging the sh%t out of me thinking how much I wanted that extra speed of an 8".
Needless to say the Colt was haunting me so I tracked it down and bought it for,,,,,,, $837 not too shabby for a rare Colt from the custom shop.
The scratch looks much worse in the picture than it is.
May get to shoot it later today, give me an idea of what kind of grips I'll put on it,,, Hogue for sure (if I do anything) but not sure of wood or rubber, their rubber grip has the back strap bare, not fond of that. May leave the factory grips but always thought they were quite ugly. So if it's easy on the hand I may Doll her up with some Checkered wood!
