Just added a GP100 357 6inch barrel,great gun.
Sorry to say i had to send it back to Ruger for some minor issues.
The rear sight was so far off i had to move it all the way to the right to get it on target,but did shoot 6 shot one ragged hole at 7 yards with 357. At 15 yards held a good 3inch group
Front sight was also off center to the right side .078
Had some cylinder lock up issues but that seemed to be getting better.
Ruger will make it right they have alwas come threw for me.

I guess I'm an oddity......of all the Ruger pistols, revolvers, and rifles I own I've never had an out of the box issue. Seems to be frequent first posters stating quality control issues.
 
Ya sad to say it had issues,buy far not my only Ruger Ive had good luck with my Rugers i had a single 9 that had 2 chambers undersized but Ruger fixed it never another issue.I have P95,single 9,SR22,MarkIII,MarkIV,2-wranglers,single 6 and rifles,308, 2-6.5cm,2-AR”s so im not a first time buyer complaining about my new Ruger.
 
I’m not sure I understand? You had to move the rear to the right because the front was off center to the right?

Why not drift the front sight to the left?

Move the front sights in the opposite direction you want the bullet to move.
Move the rear sights in the same direction you want the bullet to move. To correct shooting right, you would move the rear sight left.
 
He said both sights are way right. He also doesn’t say which side of the target he was hitting Unless I’m missing something.

Why move a rear sight to the right to meet up with the front sight being far right?
 
My GP 100 is one of my favorite revolvers. The just feel good in my hand. Mine is a 4 inch, but I wish it were a 6 inch.

Sorry front sight off .078 to left sorry had gun facing me,and this is as far as i have to move the rear to get it on bullseye at 7 yards.No worry's Ruger will take care of it.And after 100 rounds the cylinder is still locking up looks like the shells are way to loose in the cylinder they move out untill they hit the frame that could be the cause of cylinder locking up.

I have owned a lot of Rugers over the years, one Blackhawk that Tom Ruger had put together for me way back when.i was loyal to the Ruger brand. Two years ago I sprang for a new Ruger Match Champion GP100.
After a few hundred rounds, it locked up at the range, couldn’t cock it or rotate the cylinder. No problem, not with Ruger. Sent it back, when it was returned I was accused of replacing the trigger return spring ( I do NOT tinker, especially with revolvers) 37 rounds, it locked up again. Sent it back again, somewhere just shy of 40 rounds it locked up again., same way.
I am too old to play this game with incompetence. Traded it to a guy who thought he could fix it. Hope he did. Brought a S&W 686+ from the Performance Center, shoots like a dream.

OP, good on you for your patience with Ruger after two out of the box issues. It seems all the big three gun mfgs are slipping with QC as of late. Are you using factory ammo or reloads in regards to cylinder lock up.
 
Im running factory loads 110 gr 158gr 138gr,ive never had a revolver do what this one does if you tilt the muzzle up the rounds come out of the cylinder”s so when your shooting there coming out of the cylinder and press up against the frame i think the cylinders are over board but I'm no gunsmith just saying it doesn't look right to me.

So if I understand you correctly the case heads are against the recoil shield/frame and stopping the rotation of the cylinder? It's normal for the cases to make contact with the recoil shield so something else is going on IMO. Are your chambers getting fouled and cases sticking or not fully seating? Is the cylinder difficult to open when this problem occurs? Is it clean under the ejector star? I'm not a gunsmith either. Just trying to understand the issue in case it's something simple. Hope you don't mind. Oh, new Rugers are known to sometimes have machining burrs that can cause problems too.

Good call, I forgot about that. Now I’m even more curious how the sight could be off center?

It appears sights being off center is a common issue per Ruger,my sight sits .078 further to the left if you look at the sight from above its really obvious.I've seen other posts where this is an issue. Like i said not worried Ruger will make it right.

So when you load the gun all is flush now point the pistol in an upward position and the shells slide back out of the cylinder and ride agains the back of the frame,some people say its normal i tried it on 3 other revolvers they don't do it like i say I'm far from being a gunsmith just seems odd to me.

Okay, now I'm convinced that this gun has definitely got to go back to the mother ship. After reading along it sounds like it has excessive clearance between the cylinder and recoil shield and the barrel was torqued into the frame off center. Let the factory have a second crack at it and keep us posted.

I own the same gun, 6" GP 100,but I bought it used. I had no sight issue nor it locking up at all! Great DA revolver!

When I first got mine it would lock up with winchester cases. None of the others would do it. So I gave all those to my son in law and swapped him those for other brands. After about 1000 rounds I picked up some cases at the range that were winchesters. I loaded them and tried them and they never did that again. Not sure why that happened. Maybe just needed shot a bunch. One time my cylinder kept locking up when I spun it one way and was free spinning the other way. From experience I knew the cylinder nut was loose. I ordered the bit from midway and tightened it. Never has come loose again. Counter clockwise to tighten.
