GP100 Trigger Reset

I have a GP100 that I bought used a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure that the internals, to include the springs are original. I've dry fired the revolver a shload of times. The action, as expected, has continued to smooth out, and is now quite nice.

Recently though, if I release the trigger slowly the trigger doesn't reset completely to the far forward position. The hold up is only the last 1/16th of an inch and most times it resets to normal by just moving the gun abruptly.

If I release the trigger rapidly then it returns as normal.

Is this normal?

I've read here and on other forums that the channel the trigger return spring rides in often has machining debris from manufacture. This condition can affect the smoothness of the trigger return. Dirt and gummy oil from normal use could also get in that channel. You would have to remove the trigger group from the bottom of the gun to access the spring, remove it and clean the channel. I haven't done it on my GPs but it sounds simple and may solve the issue. If nothing else, it may smooth the action.

Good advice above.

But the design is such that "slowly" releasing the trigger can cause drag & not allow the internals to work as designed. Finger pressure to slow the return can prevent proper function.

Stop releasing it slowly. It’s almost like folks are looking for a way to make stuff “fail”.

I had a GP100 that did exactly what yours is doing. I sent it back to the factory and when it returned, it was repaired.

So, I finally pulled it apart, to deep clean it. Upon doing so I found that the trigger guard latch spring was broken. I'll need to get a new one.

Well that would make sense as that is the "trigger return spring" as well.....;)

I was just going to mention that a worn out/broken/improperly heat treated or incorrect weight spring will cause that.
