Tree was two weeks ago (un-decorated) because we "had to get a new one". Tree was decorated Friday. Put the lights on the house yesterday.
No Christmas decorations in this house until after the Army Navy game decorations are taken down. Wife knew that was going to be a thing before I married her. Otherwise, she would be one of the nut jobs that start decorating for Christmas the day after Halloween.
Besides, red and green doesn't go well with BLUE and GOLD!!!

Some of our neighbors had their Christmas tree up Nov 1st. And other people had lights on their houses. They are a little crazy.

Some people seem to live for celebrating each & every holiday. And many feel they have to set up decorations way ahead of the holiday.
I live with a bit of a different philosophy. Celebrate the holidays that truly mean something. Remember the reason we celebrate. Decorate if you wish, to a level each person wishes. And don't try to "out-do" everybody else. And let decorations reflect the true reason for the holiday.
Christmas is (as it should be) one of the biggest holidays we celebrate. But the level of decorations for that day FAR exceed many other holidays,, such as the 4th of July, or Veterans Day, or Memorial Day. And much of these decorations do not reflect the true spirit of the reason for the holiday.
Here,, we do not do any decorating until after we've had our Thanksgiving family gathering. And we do not go overboard,, and NO outside decorations, except for a wreath on the door. Many of our Christmas tree ornaments have a special meaning. This year,, we are adding (2) new ornaments. These were purchased as gifts for our DIL. She collected them. When she passed away,, Miss Penny asked me what we should do with them. I said; "Put them on our tree,, to remember Barbie."
I put up our tree last night. Penny will start decorating today.

Nov 1, our house looked like it got hit by a Santa Claus Storm.
Wife went to TX to see her mom and brother for Thanksgiving and was worried that the decorations wouldn't be put up.

Funny thing is we never had kids and I always figured thats who its all aimed at.
At least I have a camo stocking, thats the one thing she allows me to put out.

Leaving your Christmas lights up all year is kind of a trope, a mark of Hillbilly Redneck society, but I kind of like it.
Y'see, back when dirt was young and so was I, back when I was young and skinny, I was a working paramedic in rural Appalachian Ohio.

We needed to find the location fast.
Most callers will say "I'll turn on the porch light."
Hello, folks, (knock knock), it's after dark, everyone and their uncle has their porch lights on.
This caller said "I'll have my Christmas lights on."
Middle of August and NOBODY has their Christmas lights on!

The retailers force it. Commercials start in sparingly in SEP and by OCT are in full swing. Distribution centers and store back rooms are filled with Christmas product prior to Halloween. The past few years Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas have all been on sales floor together....as Halloween and Thanksgiving fades they just increase the Christmas areas...sales by square inch after all. Then it's over just like that and a lot of folks have nothing to show for it but a lot of high interest credit card bills. There was a study a few years back showing that the average mid range income household didn't have Christmas paid off until mid summer.....it's a cycle for some folks. The holidays, especially Christmas, brings stress to more folks then it does joy it seems. Both emotional and financial.

Perhaps they never had the means to be exposed to it as a child? Who knows. One house has a tree up in the window all year long....it gets decorated for different holidays. IMHO that is warped. Then there are the folks who don't take the decorations down until Easter......

Wife will tell me it's time to decorate for Christmas about 2 weeks to 10 days before.... then it all comes down the day after new years... even though I keep telling her it's not supposed to come down until after the Super Bowl.

I put lights on the house originally for the kids and now it's with the kids...at least with the two that still live here.
That sounds sensible aside from the super bowl thing. The NFL is too disgusting and anti Christian to be looped into Christmas...but then, the NCAA is starting to get that way anymore....
Yep. Then when they are all out and not there to help the Wife still wants them up....but my bad back, knees and hip says NOPE.
When we used to buy a "live" tree, it would never go up until the weekend after December 10th. Since we switched to a fake tree, we still do not decorate until the weekend after the 10th. I do not put lights on the house, but I do put out an inflatable display and candy cane sidewalk lights. 20 Christmases ago (our first one), we started a tradition of getting a personalized ornament every year. Sometimes we would get two if we were celebrating something special. We know have so many that we do not have room for "regular" ornaments, and I am okay with that. We are actually to the point where, in all honesty, we need a larger tree. I am okay with that too.

I believe that Christmas has been stolen from us. By starting with the ads and decorations in September, and blaring Christmas music at us starting the day after Thanksgiving, by the time Christmas actually gets here I can't wait for it to be over. Instead of looking forward to what should be an enjoyable holiday, I'm looking forward to seeing it all gone.

. That is brilliant! I keep my lights up all year, partly because it’s so tacky. It has a velvet Elvis kind of vibe.
It also has another purpose. My lights are Red White and Blue. I plug them in for all the patriotic holidays and my birthday every year.
With no kids at home no house decorations but we do put up lights
My wife has been decorating since Thanksgiving. We got our tree Wednesday. I will say this years tree really makes the house smell good.
