My own personal tradition. I make sure everything is done before late Christmas Eve. Everyone is gone or in bed. At about 11:30 PM ( sometimes an hour later) I make sure the fireplace is lit, turn off all but the Christmas lights, and make myself a tall cup of hot chocolate ( with a bit of either peppermint schnapps or Bailey's). I turn on the TV, relax in my big chair, and watch my favorite version of "A Christmas Carol". The old black and white version (unless they colorized it) starring Alistair Sim. That what gives me that Christmas feeling. Does anyone else have a personal tradition?

Fudge nut brownies. It is the only time of year we make them. Yum

It started when the boys were little. Once they were up chaos ensued. So I started getting up before dawn, making coffee and filling a thermos. I go out on the back deck and just watch the sun come up over the harbor. Just a bit of peace before insanity starts. The kids are grown and gone, but I still get up early. A lot of thanks is expressed in those times.

My favorite Christmas activity didn't actually happen on Christmas eve or day.
Way back when there were still several older, handicapped, or just 'alone' folks in the community, about a week before Christmas Dad would task me with finding, cutting, and prepping or shaping several of the local cedars we called 'Christmas trees' from here and there. Dad was the local rural mail carrier and would note where such trees were growing on the road banks or fencerows. As these were gathered, we'd take them to those folks who couldn't cut their own tree and/or didn't have family or friends to do it for them. If they were really poor, we'd add a package of tinsel and homemade stand for the tree and set it up. Sometimes I'd split up a load of firewood and toss it onto the person's dwindling wood pile while Dad was setting up the tree inside. Even as a tough as nails teenager, it was a tear jerker to see how much this meant to those people.
All the gifts or activities on Christmas day were anti-climatic. ;)

That's almost exactly what I do. I have to pass on the Bailey's though... A Christmas Carol is a Classic!

Another Christmas movie I have to watch is Christmas Vacation.

telling people the christmas holiday isnt in the bible and that its jesus' birthday. he gets presents not us.

Hunting in the snow.
Beagles on rabbits. Long hikes in the woods in search of squirrels, observing wildlife and reading tracks.
Usually get a deer or two in that period as well, but that's just vermin control and meat in the freezer.
