Buying things on line

My mom is 97 and is a on line shopaholic with one of her care givers. I was back home last month and there were three deliveries on a Saturday, and at least that many on the 2 previous days. She only buys items on sale and her habit is they find an item she likes or thinks others will like and she will buy multiple different colors.
The funniest is a bib she wears while eating it has 3 large capital letters and then below three words

Where's The Food are the words.

Funny about the multiple colors my mom was that kind of shopper

I spent hours on line trying to find simple casual slip on shoes NOT made in China.
It pretty much can't be done.
I ordered 2 pairs at around $30 each---figured I might as well be covered when the tariffs start kicking in.
I also recently ordered riding mower parts---all coming from China or were made there.
When I can get an air filter, spark plug, fuel filter, oil filter, and fuel shut off valve, all delivered to the house in 1-2 days for $15---yes I will order it on line and from China. Heck round trip to town just to shop for these parts would cost me $5 in fuel.
If I had the option to order from Craftsman/Sears and it cost me $10 more but was made in the USA, I would go that route.
I have 3 riders and 4 complete decks to assure at least 1 of them is ready to work on any given day.
Just finished cutting number 7 of this season. Mowing around 2 acres of rough, rocky, uneven ground is hard on the equipment. This time of year it is every 5-6 days otherwise it gets so tall it requires 2 cuttings---first up high then down low.
Cutting number 1 was right at 6 hours. Cutting number 7 was down to around 5.5 hours.

Wow sounds like you spend a lot of time on that mower

We use Amazon a lot. You can buy almost anything on it and it's too damn handy. Give you a case in point. Many many years ago my Mom taught me to play some on a harmonica. So all of my life I would just pick one up and play just for a few minutes. Then little over a year ago I thought I would like to get one and try to play some, being retired I have a lot of time. Well come to find out playing came fairly easy for me and I just now ordered my 5th harmonica on line, gotta have different keys for different songs ya know. Like I said, it's just too damn handy! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

We have had goats, horses, cows, and chickens here. Now down to chickens and riding mowers. Riding mowers don't need to be fed and watered twice a day every day of the year. They don't tear up fencing and eat landscaping, or go wandering. They also don't leave giant plate size divots when the ground is soft. So 6 hours of mowing and some mechanical work, for 5-6 months per year isn't a terrible thing. Plus it sure looks nice this time of the year.

I find things like Amazon convenient. But I don't buy stuff I don't need. Comes from having depression era parents. And I still prefer brick and mortar stores. Beyond being able to inspect merchandise before purchase, it's a lot faster to drive five minutes to the store than wait even a day for overnight delivery.

As to Hawaiian shirts, I have a store I buy from, they know me. Oh, and like anything else sizes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Looks fantastic do you have your own shooting also ?

I can and do shoot here, but as a courtesy to a neighbor with horses and another with gun shy dogs, I pretty much stick to just 22's. I also text 4-5 neighbors before I start shooting. On occasion when working up handgun test loads, I will step out and pop off a few shots, but avoid the 223 or big bore stuff. A friend has 1500 acres about 5 miles away, where we do most of our shooting. In fact the same place the photo was taken from (my office) is also my personal digger squirrel shooting zone. The pine/red tree squirrels get a free pass, but the diggers quickly become free buzzard food.

I saw an online ad for orthopedic waterproof shoes. Just what I wanted. I checked their website and it all looked to be on the up and up. At $44 it was slightly above my price point (I'm a cheap SOB and I usually pay $25 at Walmart, knowing they are chinacrap, but like you said what else is there?)

What sold me was the USA web site and their declaration: "Made in USA". Also, a good return policy and guarantee.

They shipped the next day with tracking. The origin site was "hochicrapramadanagadingdong" in China. Now, I'm spitting nails. I know if I have to return them it would cost more than they are worth. When they arrived they were in a plastic bag, so no box to return anyway.

They are marginally OK, and I will use them, but after the whole experience I'm still spitting nails. I am waiting for a solicitation for a review....hahahah.

PS- 125% tariff....pffffft. Make it 500 %.

Sad truth is if I can find it at a store I’ve probably already got it. I’m full up with poor quality, I’m full up with commodity items.

I want exactly what I want, not something close enough. I have those items and generally I’m high grading these days. I’ve upgraded all my hunting gear in the past 6 years or so, it should take me to the grave. I’m currently in that mode with power tools. Just about there with kitchen stuff, household furnishings.

Maybe if I were willing to shop in the big city I could get what I want. Mostly I don’t want to shop in the big city.

Here’s my three shirts!

Any of you ever go on a buying frenzy on line . Well it's summer is coming and to me summer is about wearing Hawaiian shirts so I got my 5th one on Amazon in two weeks I need to stop

So do you grow the stache and bring out the Ferrari also? Tell Higgins and the Lads I said hello! 😁

It is a convenience....mostly to my Wife. At least 2 or 3 boxes a day. My Seabee Son also orders stuff and has it sent to our house...can usually tell when he's coming home on weekend liberty or leave. Since my truck screwed the pooch I no longer have a means to get heavy/large purchases unless my Seabee Son is home. So I have resorted to ordering large stuff online. I am currently waiting on a delivery of 1750 pounds of bagged beach rock. Hoping it arrives before I leave for my Doc appointment......no telling where they might leave it. Not telling the Seabee Son.....he's due home on Mothers Day weekend....don't want to spoil his work out surprise ;)

Does look nice. What kind of mower? Also, if the mower gets sick you don't have to fix it then and now and even going to the JD dealer (if that's what you have) is cheaper than a vet visit. We had horses down here in SoFla. the ground is sand and the hooves turn grass into a sand lot on no time.

I don't want to always buy online, but seldom is whatever I'm needing easily available in a store. And seldom can I find a store employee easily available or willing to help me find what I need.
Us too. We feel that we need to support local stores and buy mostly there but it's so nice to have Amazon as a backup when you can't easily find what you need at the local brick and mortar places.

I Have been tempted by Hawaiian shirts for a long time, maybe I need to just suck it up and get one. Lol
I constantly have stuff in my Amazon cart. I don't always buy it but it's there waiting for me to sort it out.

Online shopping has also changed business for brick and mortar locations but not just buy online for delivery. Many people opt to use BOPIS, buy online pickup in store using lockers so they don't have to enter the store. Or BOPIS often offers curbside service where they bring it to your car. Also, and this is a game changer to typical customer service/staffing needs, a lot of folks find what they want online either at home or on phone, and the stores website will tell you exactly what aisle and shelf the product is on...no need to ask an Associate where it is or any product info because it's all at your finger tips. Surveys showed a large percentage of big box retailers experienced this, and either cut staffing or moved the hours from the salesfloor elsewhere in the operations. With the increase of self checkouts and decrease of human customer service interaction you will only need shelf receiving associates and shelf stockers mostly in the future. Some retailers are modeling variants of this.

However, the external theft element will never really go away. The best "deterrent" to external theft is human customer service interaction, whether in the aisles or at the frontline. Without Associates in the aisles and at check outs the malicious shrink will be astronomical. Self Checkouts are becoming more advanced, but they are still wide open to malicious activity causing shrink.

Online shopping from the big box retailers has a lot of impact on the brick and mortar element of the business.

My guess is in the future there will be no more brick and mortar.....just distribution centers to order from. The term "store" and for the most part "retail supply chain" may not exist in the future.

About them hywayyan flowerdy shirts. I had a bit of a project going that got out of hand, so between jobs recently i sold nearly 3 dozen genuine vintage made-in-actual-hawaii shirts for over 200$, making roughly double above the local-thrift store prices i paid. Buy lo, sell higher. Had i had the time to put them online, i woulda got over 1,000$. Another tank of gas and back onna road again.
