Blackhawk 30 Carbine

Please settle a bet. Unless I am wrong, Bill Ruger introduced the Blackhawk 30 Carbine as a way people could take advantage of all the cheap carbine ammo in the 60s-70s. Am I wrong?

Another way of looking at it might be that Bill Ruger saw all that surplus .30 Carbine ammo available and thought "Ya know, if I chambered a Blackhawk for that stuff I could sell a bunch of 'em."

In my opinion one of his sweetest pistol's made only problem is he didn't see fit to make a 4 5/8" but that was a easy fix. I just cut one of mine to 4 5/8" and replaced the sight. I now have a great little ruger that I really enjoy.

Ruger chose the 7-1/2" barrel length so the somewhat slow burning "Ball Powder" would have a chance to burn.....

Great shooting gun but ALWAYS WEAR EAR PROTECTION. I didn't one time and it felt like someone drove an ice pick in one ear and out the other. The upside is it is probably the most accurate single action I have ever owned. Enjoy

Jimbo you did miss a lot. In the late 70s my LGS had an import license and would import surplus ammo. As I remember Greece had gone to 9mm and the LGS sold the now surplus 45 ACP for $29.99 for 500 rounds. I still have a couple of 50 round boxes of 30 carbine marked $2.99
