Another hurricane targeting FL - Milton

Just showed several, a couple massive, tornados that popped up. My Wife has friends down there in an evacuation area. Elderly Father refused to evacuate last night so they are staying with him. They are the only ones they know of in the neighborhood. Near Sarasota.

The Tampa bay is going to fill up like the spitoon at the Long Branch Saloon on party nite. Take a look at the geography. It will funnel in the surge and waves on top of the tide along a 25 mile long coastal line.

It depends on where landfall is made. If landfall is over Longboat Key, then the wind could push water out of the bay as the eye goes over Bradenton.

Landfall is looking to be Siesta Key, so no surge problem for Tampa Bay.

Oh what a night. Wind had to gusting 90+ on the back side of Milton.

But wife & I are good, no major damage. Some vinyl fence blown out and small limbs down.

Cleetus from Bradenton said the backside winds seemed a lot stronger as Milton was leaving than when he arrived. Also commented on the weird sensation when the eye was passing.

The real Hurricane centers are good. The networks s usual look for the sensational. A week from now they will be looking for mud puddles to stand in and talk about flooding. As usual they will atep into the middle of tragedy trying to get interviews.
Many years ago, I think it was Jean or Francis on of the spokes people for the emergency Response center was talking about a Hurricanes path. The meteorologist said the storm is tracking away from us Palm Beach County and up to the Treasure Coast. He was caught on air saying "Better them than u"s. He was not seen in for the rest of the storm season and my guess is he is reporting on sandstorms in the Sahara.

The local media coverage down here is excessively slanted toward our area which has minimal if any effects from storms that are far away. I mean you can only see a sewer erupting, street flooded or palm frond in the street only so often which we see after just about every summer blow that happens :-)

The Weather Channel OTOH has covered the areas with the highest exposure from the storm the best.

All communication has been erratic since mid afternoon yesterday.

And that seems to be what happened. Good for the people around the bay, not so good for us in the Sarasota/Bradenton area.

So, we’re fine. We were doing really good until 10:00 PM when the back side of the storm hit us. We lost some shingles, soffit and fascia, and about half of our 400 feet of vinyl fence. Were living in our camper in the back yard, running it off the generator.

That back side wind was brutal. Mulberry had recorded gusts over 100 mph.

We are using a generator for necessities, but thankful for the moderated temperatures since we don't have AC.

My vinyl fence gate was torn off the hinges and a section of panels blown out.

Victor's new bleachers blew onto the track at BMP, turned over a shack, and a shelter collapsed on the golf carts. The giant helmet remains outside of the FF. Wonder how the homes are out there. Cleetus did do a fly over some coastal homes (or by a lake) in Consuela and posted it. Looks like a lot of flooding.

and when the Republicans repeat what he said the Dems say they are spreading dis or misinformation. When Harris said people in NC will be getting 750.00 checks the same thing happened. Then JB says DJT needs to get a life.

They are more interested in the damage that Mayorkas caused than the damage Milton caused.

We survived the storm.
Power out Wednesday at 2120, back on Monday nite at 2126. 5 days and 6 minutes total.
The generator in our RV provided power for the duration while we stayed in the RV. Wasn't too bad.
Only very, very slight damage to the house.
We were very lucky.

Got power back yesterday, 6 days and 6 hours.

Generator kept the freezers and fridge cold and allowed for basic comforts, coffee, hot food and antenna TV.

Both cell service and internet service were hampered by the power outage.

Thankfully the weather was mild.
