Another classic screwed up........

The Christmas Story movie made for TV in 1983 we always watch it every Christmas.
Well just tuned in to the new musical version and it just doesn't make it for me.
Why do they try to mess with the original movies...just be creative and come up with something new!

Remakes are a part of the business. I'll bet there are pictures out there that most people don't even realize were remakes of an earlier version!

I never saw The Christmas Story until just a few years ago and found it entertaining. Making it a musical? eh... I dunno 'bout that one. Peter O'Toole beclowned himself (I thought) remaking Goodbye Mr. Chips as a musical way back in 1969. Absolutely ridiculous... But I guess it made money. They haven't really screwed anything up unless they destroy the original and replace all copies with the goofy one!

Movies and other programs that are "re-makes" and "based on a true story" illustrate a lack of creativity, thought and effort. It's the lazy mans tool to try and make a quick buck.

My wife wanted to watch this so I set it up to be watched later....well we got started a little later and I quit after about 30 minutes....she made it about an hour. The original is a classic....this was a waste of someone's time and money. It will be erased next time the tv goes on.

Remakes are rarely near as good as the original. When they are, the new offering shows different angles on the topic and does it well. Most appear to be just going through the motions and driven by a lack of novel material/imagination.

I forgot to set record... but turned it on for a few minutes in the middle.... kind of interesting... not even anything like the original except I guess for the basic story line. It is a big outlandish musical... with about a hundred people dancing in many of the scenes. If you like to watch really super talented people sing and dance then it is worth a watch. Not my cup of coffee most days.. which reminds me ....

If you like musicals, it was worth a watch. It did have a few good spots in it but not worth watching again.

Now I'm waiting for Fox to show Jesus Christ Superstar live in Easter. Alice Cooper is suppose to be playing King Harrod, at least that one little segment should be good.

I heard a local movie reviewer say there were 41 remake movies coming out in 2017. No need to be original any more. I guess this is the result of the screenwriters strike a year or so ago.

Even the Ad sucked, so we won't be watching it.

I just took my girls and grandson to the play yesterday. Thought is was very entertaining. I was suprised they included the extremely non-PC chinese restaurant scene. Had fun.

Remakes. Some can be good, other disasters of he first water. Take King Kong. I have the original and the two remakes. My copy of the original also has the deleted scenes as an added feature. 8) Remake #1 is too far off the story, I mean an oil company and a castaway in lifeboat for openers??? :shock: Then we come to remake #2. Follows the original story fairly closely and included as far as I could tell all the scenes deleted from the original. Should have left them out.
Last of the Mohicans followed the original 1938 script. From what I remember of the original I think they did. I did have to original on tape but it was an extremely poor copy and hard to watch. IIRC, there are two remakes of Journey to the Center of the Earth as well. Haven't watched them in a while but IIRC, they weren't to bad. Never can tell. Some are good, some better and some are outright stinkers. YVVM.
