Advice for Ruger P Series owners

This is for the Aluminum framed owners.
Use grease on the frame rails.
I have seen too many of these guns use oil only and the anodizing will
eventually rub off the frame from the steel slide riding it.
Unlike the plastic frame guns, these aluminum frame guns
absolutely need some grease, your choice, moly, lithium, whatever.

Will it hurt the gun to have the anodizing off? Who knows. Probably not for a very very long time, if ever, even with bare aluminum. Even bare shiny aluminum probably has some hardening left.
I doubt it would ever affect the gun's performance in your lifetime but why have any wear right?
I have noticed no wear using Dupont Teflon or tetra grease with thousands of rounds, and definite wear to the anodizing in just 500 rounds with just premium synthetic oil such as CLP, LP, Weapon shield, ect.
The oil will not stay on the frame rails to any degree that it helps wear much.
Just my two cents, thought I would pass it along, normally I don't care for grease, but these guns need it.

He is correct..
I read an old post were coffee pot posted the same thing..
Here's what he had to say..
I went with a white lithium grease & it really does stay were you put it other than a small amount that squeezes out..

The 'P' series aluminum frames have a Mil-Spec sulfuric acid hard-coat finish. It's basically the same stuff that is used on the M-16. It has a hardness of approximately Rc65. It's a combination of both penetration and buildup. It is considered an Anodic coating. Along with other compounds, it contains aluminum oxide which is what many grinding wheels are made of. That frame finish is actually harder than the slide. It is not smooth and very abrasive, so adequate lube on the slide rails is nessesary to prevent wear and galling of the slide. A drop of oil won't cut it. Use a grease instead. Moly and Lithium greases are good as well as some others intended for high loading usage.

The Beretta 92 has been known to suffer from rapid frame wear if the rails aren't greased. My BIL is career military and he says all the older M9's are really loose. I think the poly rails of the P95 are a good idea as poly has some inherent self lubrication.

Brian Enos' Slide Glide is the real deal for a weapons grease!
I use it on ALL my semi-autos.

Thanks to the moderators the original post with COFFEE POT'S answer is now stickied..

After reading that post I tried the White Lithium I have a tube of..
I also have been using TW-25B on SIG Sauers for years..
I've got RIG, Militec Grease, Pro Gold, Moly Fusion etc.
Alot of these greases stink like 80w90 gear oil & won't be used on my guns..
Might experiment with the Moly Fusion in the future..
Bought this stuff a couple of years ago & have never put it to good use YET..
I have maybe 20-30 different types of Gun Oil & Greases in my Man Cave.. I'm One Slippery Character..

Amsoil's heavy duty grease is great on the slides of all my handguns and a heavy weight synthetic oil is used for lubrication.
