Why i love the old p series rugers

I never owned a Ruger P series, they never appealed to me, never felt right, etc. I was a 1911 and Hi Power guy, and Glocks for many years. I see used P series guns for cheap, and spending time here has kindled my interest in most things Ruger. I'm selling off stuff now, and buying other stuff. and the last thing in the world I need now is another pistol in a different platform, yet... for some reason I've been thinking of getting a P85. What would the 'gateway' P series pistol be?

Local pawn shop has a P89 that's been in there since Christ was a corporal, but they won't let it go for less that $260 plus tax. It's pretty rough and has someones initials etched in the dust cover. I really don't want one that bad.

I do like P Series Rugers. L to R, PC4 & KP91DC, P90, PC9 & P85.

When I was reducing my calibers, I sold the .40 combo to my best friend (his brothers now have the guns) & the 45 to another good friend.

Of all of them, I liked the PC4 over the PC9 (weight & balance) & the P90 (just felt the best). I never did warm up to the KP91, don't really know why. The fellow that has it loves it.

IMHO & FWIW, the mag release on my KP91DC never seemed as smooth & easy to use as the one on my P85. And Ruger apparently put a 22 pound recoil spring (if I measured it correctly) in the P91, which is a lot stiffer than the springs in the P90 & many other manufacturers' 40 caliber handguns (so it can be a chore to rack, if you're tired). On the plus side, I love how mine shoots - seems to handle stout factory loads better than any other 40 I own, maybe because of the metal frame & that 22 pound spring...
:)

P-95?
At this moment I have one on my belt, another in a holster tucked under the computer desk, another with light and laser next to my bed, and still another as my spare/backup carry pistol.
Guess one could say I like them.

My old P97dc is the oldest semi auto that I own. It was my first purchase into the world of guns beyond an unfired pistol I had been keeping in a bedside table for a decade or so. I think I paid about $300 for it. I bought it because it was by far the lowest cost 45acp in the store's display case. Has never failed to work as its supposed to, and is more accurate than I can make use of with my shaky hands. The little bit of money that I would get by selling it now would not come close to the pleasure I get just from handling this good gun.

I really do like how they look I got close to buying in a LGs but the guy couldn't figure out how to take it apart to clean . So I stay clear I know there is a trick to it
Easy and very simple. Manual is on the Ruger site. Give it a read and go haggle the price because he doesn't know what he is doing. Then pop it open and smile with your new P-gun.

Jav it's a piece of cake.....the guy probably didn't know to push the extractor downwards and the slide stop pulls out but not all the way out. That's the only "trick".....if you get another chance buy one you will love it!

The P85 I bought several months back I had to show the "kids" behind the counter how to break it down. Guess they are a 55+ pistol :giggle:
