I got a great deal on a lightly used 77/50 the other day. Also got 200 caps, 2 lbs 2f 777, a bunch of hornady ssts, and a Nikon scope with it. I've heard the 77/50 had misfire issues which some people found to be the nipple a little on the large side. It would misfire the first pull off the trigger when it's actually pushing the cap on the nipple. They try to re fire it and now that it's properly seated it fires. I haven't shot mine yet but am interested in the musket cap conversions I read about. Apparently you just replace the nipple but I can't find 77/50 nipples anywhere. I can find a complete 209 conversion but would rather just swap nipples. Is it a standard sized nipple like others use?

Welcome to the Forum!
Misfires caused by caps being seated during the first hammer drop are often caused by using the wrong cap size.
Before I'd change any nipples or whatever,,, I'd look into trying both the #10 & the #11 caps to see what the gun actually does. It's the cheapest route.

I shot the gun about 20x and has 3 misfire. They all went off after I re cocked the bolt and fired again. I took emery cloth to the nipple and now no misfires after 30 shots. I figured out why I couldn't find the nipple. I had to search for the whole breach plug. Ordering one from numrich for 17$ to convert to musket primers. I've heard these guns didn't like 209 conversions very much. It shoots good. About 2.5"@100 with open sights. I'm sure it would be about 1.5" scoped but that will have to wait until next season if I even bother.
