.30 carbine reloading issues

I am loading .30 carbine for my Ruger Blackhawk. What is the best way to properly size these tapered cases. What I am running into is that some of my rounds will not chamber, they get stuck while inserting them into the cylinder of the Blackhawk. This has been happening with jacketed bullets. I want to use cast bullets and am concerned this will only get worse.

Has anyone run into this issue? What solutions can you all share?

good question..I need to check the dies..

what do you think about the lee factory crimp dies?

I am running a dillion 550 and have the extra position to crimp as a seperate operation from seating.

It's quite possibly a bullet ogive/overall length issue.

Mine was the same way, factory ammo was fine, but my handloads wouldn't chamber. I found the ogive of the bullets were hitting the .305-ish" throats.
Once I opened them up I had no problems.

First be sure that your brass is trimmed to the proper length.

Then size the brass and expand the necks and try them in the chamber to see if the problem is with the brass.

If not, then seat the bullets to the called-for length and see if they seat then. If they don't, it is the bullets not entering the throats properly.

If that is the case, and if you are using the proper bullets and not perhaps bullets designed for the .32 Mg., it is the throat diameter and you will have to send the cylinder off to a cylinder smith for adjustment.

And if you send it to cylindersmith.com, have him also polish the chanmber to help prevent sticky extraction. jmho

Try using 32-20 cases. They work nicely and have a rim!!!!

If you send it to Cylindersmith you'll get it back with nothing done. He can't work on the .30's

thanks..I looked tonight. Found a box of 100 virgin .30 carbine brass in my stash I forgot that I had. Tomorrow, I'll size a few, then expand them and check the fit. I also have some 100 grain LRN from Magnus bullets to try.

I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.

Update..I haven’t messed with the new brass yet but I did discovered that the Lyman die set I have been using has a roll crimp. I just ordered a Redding taper crimp die from Midway so when that shows up I’ll experiment with that.

I don’t think the problem lies with the gun's cylinder. This is my third .30 carbine Blackhawk and they all had this issue. What is strange is that only some of my reloads have this problem, some chamber & shoot just fine.

Is your brass all trimmed to the same length?
