by that time period I think you'll find MOST were the XR-3 red ( redesigned) and having the silver, mushed eagle (squashed chicken) medallions........

Yep,, I was thinking in a bit of a different direction. Rugerguy is correct. I knew better,,, but often type things that are different than I'm thinking. It's usually when I'm thinking TOO MUCH that I overlook the total question.
(I'll put on my dunce hat now!)

Interesting thing.Just went and looked at my Rugers and a 44spl flatop has a set of beautiful striped rosewood I guess with "squashed chickens" and a New Vaquero with a set of the Checkered walnut grips(ordered from Ruger) has the squashed chickens. Go figure??I guess they are not factory issue but they sure are pretty.Wish I could post pics.Maybe that should be a new years resolution(to learn how to post pics)?I know there is a tutoral on the forum but my printer doesn't work with the computor.Guess I am in the "stone age"too lazy to get it fixed.

Which one of those are you referring to? Help the new people with squashed lingo. Those two are opposite reliefs.

The set on the right is commonly referred to as the squashed chickens. If you look at medallions a few years later, you will see a sharper edged eagle.
