The more I got into this revolver, the more I found wrong with it. Not only the wrong hammer causing the cylinder lockup problem. The grip frame had obviously been changed, it was in much better shape than the rest of the gun. Also the stamp on the inside put it as a later manu. date than the gun. I found out why when I put it together for it's "final" assembly. Further up in this thread I said I had found a short bottom mount screw. I got an appropriate length screw out of my parts and ran it in. got half way in and broke off without much torque on it. The short screw had been broken off in the main frame, which I should have looked at while I had it apart. It stuck up in the gf hole far enough I could not get the gf off. I actually cracked the gf while trying to remove it. Nothing left to do but cut the gf. Got the broken screw out and checked the mount threads with another screw. got half way and bound up, so I backed it out. Going to get a thread chaser and clean it up.
So now I'm into this gun for a hammer and grip frame, not to mention all the time and frustration. So I sent a text to the gentleman I had bought it from on Brokegunner, detailing all I had found wrong with the gun, and attached some pictures. He said he wasn't aware of the problems, had taken it in on trade. I gave him a price I thought it would be worth, he agreed to send me a check for $100.00. I received the check in the mail yesterday. I would like to send a shout-out to this guy, but won't give his name without his permission. A good honest dealer.
We purchase these guns off the web, sight unseen, just a few pictures and a description to go on. We should be able to expect a safe, useable gun, unless sold as a parts gun. I have purchased a lot of guns off Gunbroker, this is the first time I have really been disappointed with my purchase. The seller did make a concession and gave me a partial refund, for which I am VERY grateful.
