My SP101 had a very heavy trigger pull. I tried smoothing internal surfaces myself and dry firing, but it was still unsatisfactory. Then I sent it to Ruger, which is what I should have done in the first place. It was returned within a week, and the difference is amazing. Best of all, there...
The Mustang came out in the spring of my senior year (1964) in high school, and I wanted one. When I started dating my future wife in 1968 she had a yellow Camaro with a 327 cu. in. V8. Since it had a limited-slip differential it tended not to get stuck on muddy roads so I used it for hunting...
I love to shoot my 6 inch GP100, but I prefer to carry, either on foot or on my tractor, my 2.25 inch SP101. The longer barrel of the bigger revolver just gets in the way, especially on the tractor. I don't know the SP101 is there until I need it. (Big cottonmouths really don't like the...
Mine definitely did not come with a "good trigger." In double action it was very stiff and rough. After trying polishing and dry firing (a lot) I finally did what I had been advised by several to do and sent it to Ruger. In less than a week it was returned. It is now amazingly smooth and...
My 1894C really likes 158 grain Sierra jacketed soft points over a Lyman manual maximum load of 2400. My 6" barreled GP100 likes them also. Even though these are maximum loads (in the Lyman manual - other manuals have higher loads) they are very pleasant to shoot both in the Marlin and in the...
My Super Blackhawk 5.5" is my favorite tractor gun. It rides better than my 6" GP100 for some reason. Maybe it's the holsters. Of course, the SBH is a .44 magnum and not a .44 Special, but the loads I use are equivalent to specials. I don't have any shot shells, though. And I need some...
It's interesting that several plan to deer hunt with the GP100. I have a 5.5" Super Blackhawk .44 magnum that I would likely use if I deer hunted with a revolver, which I may do someday but haven't to this point. However, if I knew I just HAD to shoot a deer with a revolver, I would be more...
I completely agree with GhosT. I don't see how a better .357 could be made. Rugged, accurate, good trigger - what more could you want? I would feel confident hunting deer with it, although I haven't.
Great gun. Mine is a six-inch barrel, but I really liked the feel of the four-inch barrel better. So why did I buy the six-inch? Still don't know but I love to shoot it. Hit an 18" gong target at 200 yards with it recently.
