Zeiss isn't the only one that sells excellent glass.

No fault of the OP, Contender, this article is pretty much click bait or misconceiving,,,, it happens all the time. We are all subjected to it.
But I looked at the Zeiss sporting product line & thought wait a minute,,, 70 employees can't make all that. Then thought about a model or 2 thatZeiss rebrands other makers wares & read a bit more. Seems a lot of Zeiss models are made outside the Zeiss facilities in Germany,, with Japanese manufacturers being responsible for many.
Now the closure of one dept. maybe made a particular special model or was the 70 employee facility simply a marketing, service or other department remains unclear,,, but for all practical purposes, or more info is present,, The Zeiss sporting line doesn't appear to be going away.
They may be made by Meopta in the Czech Republic or mostly Japan, LOW optics there a big choice for quality Jap optics. But again, no indication of Zeiss sport optics going away at this time.
Not offering a single link here, so beware, without very reliable sources, your own research may be required.

Had the opportunity to buy either Zeiss or Swarovski binocs a while back.
Selected Swarovski after trying them side by side.
Had the opportunity to shoot a friend's rifle with a Zeiss scope. I was not impressed, even after cleaning the lenses for him.
My Trijicon scopes have better resolution, in my opinion. So do my Leupold scopes.
My other friend with 20/20 vision looked through my binocs and a new pair of Nikon binocs recently and said he couldn't tell any difference, except when looking toward the setting sun, trying to see animals hidden in the shadows. Otherwise, he thought $450 was a much better deal than $2,000.

I have several pairs of binoculars, Pentax, old Japanese Tasco's, Nikons and a couple of others. The best that I own are a 1930's Ziess 6X35's. Still sharp and clear, paid less than $30.00 at a second hand store about 15 years ago for them. Looked at a new air of Ziess and decided my old one would do. Sorry to hear about them shutting down.
Leupold sure is. Everything, but the glass, is made in Beaverton Oregon. I just picked up a Mark 4HD 6-24x from them, and it's phenomenal. I think this makes my 15th scope from them. :p

I was disappointed to discover that a BSA (Birmingham Small Arms) scope somebody gave me in a trade was not just Chinese junk, but easily the worst scope upon which I have ever cast a peeper.
I have a pair of compact made before the conquest series came out. They're my absolute favorites because they're light, compact and the glass clarity is impeccable. Sad news to hear but it's a global economy downturn.
Bought a cheap BSA to put on a .17hmr when they first came out.
150 rds of rimfire and the BSA's cross hairs rotated in the the scope.

Simmons has been my go-to rimfire scope brand
out of a half dozen or so I have, never had any issues with any of them
oldest one over 40 years old has sighted the harvest of hundreds of squirrel and rabbit
That BSA went in the trash and I put a Bushnell 4-12 on it.
Simmons is great for a rimfire, have done that with .22 mags
The older Simmons (Japan) were decent scopes for the money. I have two of the rimfire a 3-9 AO 1022T and a 4X....they have held up great. The 4x is what all my kids used as a first scope. The Simmons Aetec was a decent entry level scope as well. Very popular with night predator hunters back in the day.
All of my scopes are now 10 years old at least. I have one Leupold scope that I purchased used, Vari X111 4.5 -14 x 40 and has AO and fine reticle and I absolutely love it. Most of my others are Nikon. I love to own good stuff but have generally had to fit them into into my budget. My used Leupold cost me more than the rifle that it's mounted to, but that's ok with me.

Optics have come so far these days a 40 year old scope from the best brands can't compare with a $100 scope from anyone now. A new vortex scope for $250 is almost as good as a $2000 German scope. Yes the German one is slightly better but you pay huge for that extra, what, 5%?

The Zeiss Conquest series were no better than Leupold; in my side by side comparison, not quite as good. They were designed to compete in the midrange price point. They were plenty good, but not top of the heap. The Diavari line is a whole different discussion - top of the line optics. I have one of these, a 3-15x on my .22-250 model 77 RS.
Recently I ordered a pair of Zeiss compact binoculars - 10x25s. When they arrived, I tried them out and found them lacking. Then I saw they were made in China. Im not paying $300 for Chinese binoculars. I sent them back and got a pair of Steiner 10x28s and am quite happy with them - same money.
I'm sorry to see Zeiss go. Guess I better hold on to my one Zeiss scope.

Do not kid yourself on a $250 Vortex vs $2000 German scope. There is considerably more diff than 5%. The Glass (most German is Schott's), Lens coating process, and the repeated ability of the scope to track should not be compared.
You can run to town in a Yugo and buy a bill of grocery's, or you can drive a Rolls Royce. The comparison can't be made
